I have an 07 Aveo sedan that I bought new. I've had it about 6 weeks or so. I love the car but have had a problem similar to what you mentioned. Each morning when I start the car prior to going to work, all of the "warning lights" on the dash light up as usual. No big deal. Problem is, the "parking brake" light and the "battery" light both stay on for about 3 minutes or so after the other lights have gone off.
I took it to my Chevy dealer and left it with them. When I went back to get it, they told me that the lights did not do what I described. On the ticket they wrote "could not duplicate" and that was it. I have noticed that the problem with the lights only happens in the morning when I first crank up the car. Makes me wonder if this is connected to the engine being cold? Any advice?
thanks
by the way, the tech tried to tell me that the car's computer was "running a test" and that it could be normal....yeah right, nice try

This is probably not it, but I recently read in a local paper auto question column that engine/brake trouble lights can also be triggered by the emergency brake lever between the seats on several different brand cars. If it is not pushed down and deactivated all the way it could trigger warning lights not related to the brakes.
#49 of 106 HeadLight Covers Have An Odd Color......
by flaaveo

My 2006 Aveo has an odd color starting on the headlight covers. They are NOT getting dull, like so many older cars with plastic lens covers. It is developing a 'rainbow' look to the side of each headlight, where the turn signal is located. You know, the look of gas when it is floating on water. That kind of 'rainbow' look. I don't know if it is because of the daytime running lights, that are on ALL the time?? Or is there a problem starting in the plastic cover?? Does anyone else have this issue? I am going to take it in to my dealer as soon as I can. But that could be weeks. So I figured I would ask if anyone else has this going on.
It is obviously covered, I hope, by the warranty, I only have 9,500 miles on it! BUT, I just wanted to know if this is a common problem or do I have an odd one?

#51 of 106 Aveo eclectrical/lighting issue

My girlfriends 06 Aveo has been having a lighting issue. Her dash board lights go on and off, though now they mostly stay off, and when the dash lights go off the right taillight goes off. The taillight goes back on when the dash lights turn back on. The radio and all the other lights work fine. I've looked at the fuses and they appear to be fine, but that's about the extent of my car knowledge. Any thoughts?

It is likely a wiring ground of some type. Can't say where to start looking.

Did you ever find out what the problem was? I gave my daughter a 2007 Aveo and she believes the alternator went out on it at 40K miles, 4K miles past the warrantee. She told me the car lost lights and she had to charge the battery 3 times to get it home. The new alternator is $550.00 plus labor...total estimate is around $850.00 (with diagnostic test). Please let me know what you found out...Thanks Darin

Your engine should have a minimum of a 5-year/60,000 mile engine warranty if I recall. I believe it was changed to 10-years in the later 2007. The engine warranty covers alternators if I am not mistaken. The power train warranty that GM has is actually better than most as far as the parts covered.

I posted incorrectly now while looking at it. The Aveo used to have a 5-year or 60,000 mile powertrain warranty that was changed to 5-years, 100,000 miles, which ever comes first.
#56 of 106 Open trunk sensor or switch
by rodsem

Some guy decides to stop on the back of my Aveo 2004 hatchback, I'm not actually complaining, now my Aveo is the only car with butt; the problem is that now that the trunk door is damage, the "open door" alert is always on. In the other four doors, I have found the sensor button, it's easy to find, but I can't find the sensor or don't know how is that the system detects that the trunk door is open so I can deactivate it.
Any ideas? This is giving me battery problems and a headache!
