| I concur with your assessment of the Aveo in that it doesn't stand out enough to motivate me, or any knowlegable buyer, to purchase this vehicle. I own a v-8 powered SUV and am considering a second vehicle to reduce fuel consumption. Since this would not be my primary vehicle, comfort takes a passengers seat to fuel efficiency and reliability. With a highway EPA of 34 mpg, I can get better fuel efficiency from much more powerful cars such as the Focus, Civic, Corolla, all which offer more comfortable accomodations for little more (Focus always has great rebates; base Corollas and Civics are well equipt and affordable). Even cars such as the Camry and Accord deliver 34 mpg respectivly. If I would choose to give up so much in performance I would expect to be rewarded with spectacular fuel efficiency. The Avio simply does not deliver. | |

What's with the complaint about ABS on the Aveo? It's one of the easier subcompacts to find with the option. Fit and the Scions have it standard, but not the Yaris, Versa, or Accent/Rio, or most larger economy cars. What comes on your test car is indicative of what's in the press fleets, nothing more. |

Considering that this competes with the Toyota Yaris and the Honda Fit, the fuel economy numbers are dismal. All three have roughly the same horsepower, torque, and acceleration statistics. However, Toyota and Honda squeeze out fuel economy numbers in the low 30's for city and nearly 40 for the highway. So how can GM expect to compete when they offer 26/34 MPG? Edmund's averages 29 MPG in the Aveo... ...and I average that in my VW GTI, which has double the horsepower and torque. |

I have a 2006 Aveo Sedan with a manual transmission. I drove it from Orlando to St. Petersburg and back (about an hour and a half trip one way going an average of 60 MPH). I got almost 50 MPG with unleaded regular gas - am I missing something here?!?!? BTW - After doing 6 months of research before making my final purchase, my monthly payment would have been $130.00 more per month on the Civic, Lacking features on the Accent, $75.00 more a month for the Focus - my finace' has one - it's crap with a ton of recalls (check out the NHTSA.gov website), The FIT just doesn't - FIT it's price tag as the same with the Scions. My insurance on the 2006 Aveo is $46.00 lower per month compared to the 2001 Focus we also own. The funniest thing about the Aveo....people that drive for SPEED (with a glove compartment stuffed with speeding tickets) or currently have a car/SUV with a V6 or V8 simply will not like this car unless they change their thinking process of what an automobile is designed for. But if you want to pay more for insurance (theft issues on Hondas, Toyotas, SUV's) and pay more per month on an average for the car (monthly payment and gas) when you could be saving the extra money for a weekend get-a-way.........enjoy! So......tell me again......why wouldn't you buy this car?

Replying to: akveevo (May 19, 2007 6:46 am) City/Ville 8.9 litres/100km or 32 MPG (Imperial Gallon) Highway/Route 5.9 litres/100km or 49 MPG (Imperial Gallon) The 2007 Toyota YARIS: City 6.9 litres/100km Highway 5.5 litres/100km If you average about 50/50 city and highway driving and compare the AVEO Sedan to the Yaris HB, you will only lose about 1 litre of fuel for every 100km you drive in the AVEO over the YARIS. I drive an average of 500km per week so I lose 5 litres of gas over a Yaris HB....about CDN$6.50 a week at CDN$1.20 per litre of fuel. With a 5speed transmission the times from 0-100km (0-60 mph) take about 10 seconds in the Aveo, same as the Yaris Sedan or HB. |
