#177 of 228 89 Honda Civic CRX HF Clutch Problems by crxcase

Nov 02, 2009 (1:24 pm)

So this is the story guys. I just got this car about three months ago. The car wasn’t making any noise it was running good. Then I changed the oil and for some reason the car started to make this weird noise like the flywheel was going out.(The next day after oil change I was coming home from work racing a GTI & a Porsche) Sooo anyways when the clutch was engaged the noise would happen. Then the noise just went away! Then I was driving with my friend and I was backing up into a parking spot. As I was backing up it sounded like I hit something. I got out of my car and looked, nothing was there. Sooo I got back into my car and turned it over w it in reverse and it wouldn’t go. I had to push my car all the way back home………Anyone have an idea of what I can do to check to see what the problem is……….I think I should get a new clutch…Maybe a stage 3 clutch w everything………….

Thanks for your time

Ps. Now if the car is in neutral and I let out the clutch it will just stalls. It only wants to go into reverse and 1st gear………….

Thanks for the info.. unfortunately the dealer is not going to do anything! I'll just have to have it rebuilt come the 1st of the year or so! Don't ever buy anything from Corporate Auto Brokers in Cumming, GA Every car they've ever sold to anyone I know has been a lemon !

#179 of 228 reverse hesitates before engaging by inztagatah

Only sometimes when i shift to reverse it takes 1 to 3 seconds to engage other times it's fine. Also somtimes when shifting from revers to park it makes a rough click noise. shifting from reverse into drive works fine, and select shift works fine. also i hear grinding pulley noise when idling sounds like its coming from the transmission when under the car. Could this be old transmission fluid or worn seals?

#180 of 228 electrical and transmission by marcia1639

My 2000 ls was hit in the rear while it was parked. The very next day, I backed the car out of the drive and it hestiated before going into drive. As I drove down the street, the steering seem to be getting tight. I look in my dash and my speed odometer dropped to -0-, the Trip mileage went blank, the brake light came on. I took it to Auto Zone for a diagnostic and it gave a code of P1633. Some type of electrical problem that stated low voltage to battery. Battery disconnect or something to this effect. I then took it on to the dealer and asked that they diagnose what was causing the electrical problems and was told that I needed coils, spark plugs, and a valve cover gasket. They never said anything about the electrical problem, or the battery issued or low voltage to the battery.

How in the world can replacing coil paks, spark plugs and a valve cover gasket fix an electrical problem.

Does anyone know if the transmission have an electrical pump or something thats indicating that my tranny is about to go out?

I just had the same issue on my 2004 LSV8 this past year. They charged me $475 for a throttle body. I said BS...It's not the throttle body. They insisted it was. 24 hours after having a new throttle body installed, it went back into ETC failsafe mode. I went back in and they said it was the ABS sensor on the left rear that was the problem, and that would cost another $300 for parts and labor. I said BS. I demanded that they do the job for free, because it was clear that the ABS sensor was sending a code to the throttle body that caused it to fail again. We came to an agreement at a Ford/Lincoln dealer that they would do the work for $50 more. I agreed. They throttle body was replaced under a one year part warranty for no charge, and for a week now I have had NO issues. I signed up on this board last year because I was tired of the dealers nickle and diming me to death. At least for me, it was completely the ABS sensor, NOT the throttle body. Good luck!

Had similar issue with my 2001 LS (same codes, no 4th or 5th gear). Also had a repair shop tell me I needed a new tranny (and would install for $3500). After some internet research, I bought a $6 spring over the net (Sonnax part #56947J-S1, "Spring, 4-3 pre-stroke valve" for transmission model 5R55N) and had a local trans shop install it, completely fixing the problem - the original spring had broken. Total cost, including new trans filter and fluid - $445.

My car is currantly at the Auto Shop. My cars gas tank got punctured. So the machanic replaced it. Now he says that it wont start. It turns though. He says we now need to replace the whole new computer system from Lincoln. Does that sound correct? Any ideas on what to do?
