Let's have our "member" chat here. I only ask that if you raise issues you think will have general interest then please post or repost your message and responses in the appropriate specialized topic.

Thanks and enjoy!

There's been a lot of discussion on the "whys" over in the software forums so I won't rehash all of that here. Basically, we have LARGE numbers of people coming to the site looking for specific information and help but they are completely put off when they come across general discussions containing thousands of messages or even tens of thousands in some cases! And they do complain!

We're trying to make it easier for them to get the information they need so they'll just go to group pages and pick out the relevant discussion.

What's the difference between a "Meet the Members" and a "general" thread?

The general threads, as they exist, suggest the answers are contained therein and that puts us back to square one. I think that a "general" discussion with a more informal name (such as "lounge" or whatever) won't be viewed as a primary data source but will maintain the continuity of interaction among those of us who just like to talk about our vehicles.

Also, when questions and issues of broader interest do arise in the more informal discussion there is always the option of moving it to or picking it up in the specific topics.

Yes, it's a little different but I think it will better serve both the noob and the more experienced participant in the end.

I hope that helps!

This is the only time I will ever post here, but It seems you must have way too much free time on your hands, to have dreamed up this way of micromanaging and alienating your customers.

Well,I DID, but you locked off the Navigator thread, so my comments are in the equivalent of a fenced-off junkyard.

Who knows, next week, a different focus group or consultant will send you in a different direction and this will all be scrapped too.

Your hosts are the ones who always beat-up everyone who started their own thread on their individual micro-issue and now you are messing up the bloated threads you created by forcing your customers (you know, the ones who generate your revenue by clicking those links) to do the opposite of what you forced them to do before.

Gotta give you credit Tidester, your humor is better than mine about this. I'll respond because you are one of the only people working here that I have respect for.

It's a balancing act, to get people to frequent your site and click those links (cha-ching) people must make an emotional investment.

When you get people to care about your site and then have ham-fisted staff (certainly not you) bully them around trying to cram them into the philosophy of the week, or slapping them on the knuckles as soon as someone thinks they are drifting, you'll have backlash.

If no one cared, then you'd really be in trouble.
