Article comments for Full Test: 2007 Lexus LS 460 - The flagship of the fleet should be fashioned from an uncommon and uncompromised blend of technology and opulence. It should sport elements that distinguish it from the lesser vessels of the line, instill in its occupants an aura of invincibility and convey to the driver a lofty level of dynamic excellence, tempered but not tamed by a lush layer of luxury. I Agree. The car isn't even equipped with the parking system which edmunds editor liked in the first test.
I think Edmunds people are too early to comment on LS 460
By the way, they still gave the car 10 points.

To put things in perspective, here's Edmunds' full test of the S550
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/FullTests/articleId=108988/pageId=68- 239

0-60 in 6.1s
1/4 mile 14.2s 101mph
tested mpg 15.6
slalom 63.9mph
skidpad 0.83g

And this is their test result of the LS460:

0-60 in 5.8s
14.2s 100.7mph
tested mpg 25
slalom 63mph
skidpad 0.82g

So Lexus performs just as well as the S550 in all areas, except that it's 0.3s quicker to 60, and it gets almost TEN (10!!!) more mpg.

What more do you want? This test LS doesn't even have the air suspension, which greatly enhances the ride and driving dynamics.

Edmunds' could've gotten their own facts straight before passing on this "not yet" nonsense. LOL.

Thanks for putting up objective numbers. Also, the S550 costs $14,000 more to start, and the model and trim they tested cost them $32,000 more than the LS460 they chose to critique.

For those who feel like reading a great article, Motor Trend October issue, "enemy at the gates: Japan's lux leader invades german turf" gives a thorough and very positive critque of the newest Lexus. oh... and the pics are just amazing! (VSC/TRAC turned off, and smoke curling off tires, car all crossed up and sideways! Amazing pics.)

As usual, you miss the point of vehicles by a long shot...and I mean a long shot. "decent suspension". It seems like it already has a decent suspension, if you idea of a decent suspension is that what is in a BMW 5-series, you're hopeless. THe LS is a a luxury car FIRST. I'm sure one could say the 5-series is "floaty" compared to a BMW 3-series also. And it will probably be floatier than a BMW 7series again, but also it's first a luxury car. And if you haven't noticed yet, LUXURY is what sells cars at this price point, not SPORT.

You're telling me I am missing the point?

The point by the way is to comment on the Edmunds review of the new LS. Which I did. You are off topic here by bringing in totally extraneous material editorializing on what you believe the LS is supposed to be. And the 5 Series and the 3 Series? Where are they mentioned in the review?

Edmunds expressed disappointment with the brakes and suspension in their review, and when one is spending this kind of money, I would hope the reviewer would not find these kinds of faults. I would expect that maybe in a Saturn LS review.

"So Lexus performs just as well as the S550 in all areas, except that it's 0.3s quicker to 60, and it gets almost TEN (10!!!) more mpg." -- That's 200 miles further on a 20 gallon tank of gas!! (Not that the math was all that hard, but it puts it in perspective.)

I personally can visualize Edmunds wanting to complain about the LS because they love the MB S, and don't want their precious to be overturned. But when people look at the numbers, they'll see that 0-60 was 0.3 seconds faster (better straightline performance, and 1/4 mile time is irrelevant since I, and most others, can't even remember going 100+ mph), slalom 0.9 seconds slower (barely noticeable cornering difference, and LS turning circle is much tighter), mpg is approaching 66% better than the S, and price...well...let's just say MB isn't there.

Complaints without figures to back them up seem to be ignored by most people these days, which is exactly what I believe will happen. And, like many here have previously mentioned, they didn't even test the sport suspension package. Yeah, that's fair.

I don't believe Edmunds has an agenda against Lexus.
They could have mentioned that they were testing the basic car and that there was a sportier suspension available. Agreed.

I believe most people around here who want this car will ignore the Edmunds review and get it anyway.

I would definitely drive the 2 different versions of the LS 460 before purchasing it: once with the regular suspension and also with the sportier suspension the second time.

Who can say? Just listening to the improved ML sound system and feeling that caressing cool air circulating around my butt just might be enough of a deal maker!

Today, I got a chance to see the Lexus LS460 and LS460L in a dealer located in Hong Kong.

I think the biggest disappointment I have with the LS460L is the Rear seat relaxation system (which the person can sort of stretched his legs in the seat). In order to use it, one must move the front seat all the way forward but my legs were still blocked by the front seat. Another thing is the central console in the rear seats. I think the central console should be an option since I find the central console taken up some space that can be used by the 3rd occupant in the rear.

For the LS460 (standard wheel base), the legroom and overall interior space is between the E-class and the new S-Class.

The Good: Price. The LS460L has everything almost in standard and it's still cheaper than the S350 which has a V-6 and has much less standard options. I think build quality is slightly better than the new s-class.

The Bad: Styling. Although a subjective thing, for me it looks like a 7 series or a scale up ES300 / Camry especially looking at it from the rear quarter. I really have high expectation in the styling of this car.

Btw, Our family owned the stretched version of the new S500 (S550 for U.S.) with the ABC option. We will have a test drive of the LS460L on next Saturday.

You are not the first person to complain about the lack of sufficient legroom in the rear, although this is not mentioned in the Edmunds review.

Given that Edmunds liked the impeccable fit and finish of the interior and the 19 speaker ML sound system, I anticipate many people will forgive the LS some of its shortcomings and purchase it without hesitation.
