What is this discussion about? Lexus LS 460, Automotive News, Sedan

Article comments for Full Test: 2007 Lexus LS 460 - The flagship of the fleet should be fashioned from an uncommon and uncompromised blend of technology and opulence. It should sport elements that distinguish it from the lesser vessels of the line, instill in its occupants an aura of invincibility and convey to the driver a lofty level of dynamic excellence, tempered but not tamed by a lush layer of luxury. You can attempt to ridicule me all you want but it won't help. The Edmund's reviewer did not like the new LS. That is the issue. Calling me "full of it" calls attention to your own insecurity and really, does nothing but embarrass you.

We are here to discuss the Edmund's LS review. The reviewer found the brakes are grabby, the suspension too floaty and the design uninspired. The reviewer also stated the vehicle does not measure up to the S-Class or 7 Series. He was not talking about the prestige factor.

Instead of attempting to ridicule me, why don't you write an editorial to the Edmund's reviewing staff? Call them "full of it" if you wish.
Accept it. They didn't like the car.
I repeat. The Edmund's reviewer did not like the car. This has nothing to do with me. Accept reality. It will only hurt for a little while. Good luck with that. I'm pulling for you!

"You seem to be living in a state of denial-ignoring all the mixed reviews, and there are many, and quoting the one or 2 good ones."

I've driven the car - I don't need any reviews.

That hpowders had some honest negative post on an LS... shocking indeed !

The LS is a fine car in its own right. It is an electronic marvel in many ways... And it will do very well in the market. Already sales are brisk, thanks to the market who are accepting and buying this car, sometimes sight-unseen... You don't like it, don't buy it. Enjoy your 545i. It aint a luxury car as the LS is. I have driven the new LS LWB and there is nothing floaty or grabby about it. The footwell was OK for me, and the style was equally OK. Those are my opinions, but I am not trying to pass them off as the gospel...

You forget. I have tried to like Lexus vehicles. Unlike some others who put Lexus down from afar, I have driven the LS430, the GS300 and the GS430. I was not born with an anti-Lexus bias.
As far as the 545/550, you yourself said you may be considering one if the LS got too pricey. The BMW is not a luxury vehicle, but if you try it (with the comfort seats), I do think you will like it. It is a very comfortable vehicle and with options, it can hit $78k, MSRP.
But if you get the LS460, good luck with your choice.

We are all quite lucky to be able to waste all this time debating the pros and cons of $60k-$80k vehicles.
With a few bad turns in life, it could have been Kias vs Suzukis. Ouch!

Mentioned the only thing that rivals the Levinson system in the new LS460 is the ELS Panasonic systems in some Acuras.

For 2-channel CDs, XM, and FM, my friend's 05 Acura TL was about even with my 99 GS400's Nakamichi sound system. His TL's Panasonic ELS system had better mid-bass for sure but my GS had a more natural and clear range of low effortless bass and vocals... so they were different but in both of our opinions roughly even unless you have a bias toward the synthetic pop music of the day then his ELS system had the slight edge and with classics and more relaxed music the Nakamichi had a slight edge.

Now when you put a DVD-A disc in his Acura the gloves were off and it flat-out killed my Nakamichi in every regard without a shadow of a doubt.

However with that said I would have to say that after 8 years, a move to Mark Levinson, and with the flagship LS which is much quieter than my GS, has far more speakers, far more advanced sound processors, and DVD-A capability... that if I auditioned the LS460's Levinson system and found it to be even close to 'comparable' or 'arguably better or worse' than the ELS system in my friend's 05 TL, I would be VERY disappointed.
I mean we're talking the LS which is probably the best cabin for sound reproduction out today (because it's so quiet and tightly built) with Mark Levinson, a name that is praised by most audiophiles 100x over before they'd even look the direction of a panasonic audio product (typically considered low to mid range in their sound products)... and the ML is a 2500 option... ELS in the TL is standard.
So yeah, if they were even close to the same IMO I'd think hell had frozen over.

Being that I've yet to get a chance to hear the LS460's ML system (despite sitting in a few of them at the dealer)... I'm even more anxious/nervous to hear for myself, since beauty in sound is really only in the ear of the listener and nobody else.
