What is this discussion about? Lexus LS 460, Automotive News, Sedan

Article comments for Full Test: 2007 Lexus LS 460 - The flagship of the fleet should be fashioned from an uncommon and uncompromised blend of technology and opulence. It should sport elements that distinguish it from the lesser vessels of the line, instill in its occupants an aura of invincibility and convey to the driver a lofty level of dynamic excellence, tempered but not tamed by a lush layer of luxury. I am going to a Taste of Lexus event 4 weeks from today.
Forget the rear, how's the driver's seat legroom?

I wish they have the catagories for Luxury and Super Luxury.
Since I do not think we can compare this LS460 with S550, they should be in the different catagory and consider them differently.

After all, different price make it all different.

By the way, have you all ever heard about TOYOTA Century? Just like Nissan Skyline, this car is only sold in Japan and some SE Asian Countries, the price is over US $150k and you have a choice of V8 & V12. V12 version is making over 450hp. Now only with V12. This is not secret, Century has been out there for 40 years now(since 1967). The reason they dont imported here is who would spend $150k for a toyota?

What are you talking about?
Last time I checked the A8, 7-series, S-class, and LS were all direct competitors.
Also, a Lexus is going to introduce a V12 Hybrid super-ultra-luxury sedan that will cost well over the six figure mark. Name is something like L650 as of now.

I am not so sure that Edmunds "loves MB" as I am that the LS is simply a very fine Luxo automobile but is NOT a sport luxo auto that BMW is, and MB can be with the sport suspension (Lexus is not no matter what suspension they use). But, so what? Lexus sells a ton of "luxo mobiles" every year and the new 460 will only add to that total. All of this whining over who is "better" is a waste of time. The Germans own the track, "road feel" and handling in general. Lexus owns value for money and a very reliable luxo, high end car. To each, his own. Some will like one and some will like another. Lexus has had tons of chances to dethrone BMW and has not done it, even in the face of executive pronouncements. Unless they get serious, forget it. Be happy with major sales to customers that want the lux and are only vaguely aware of the sport.

Lexus Drive by jd1tx

Did the Lexus Drive in Dallas this past weekend and have to think the tester was pre-production. I drove the 460L and it leaned much less in the turns than the S550 and had a better ride. I also did not find the brakes grabby or the ride floaty at all. I would drive this car over the Benz any day.

It sounds as if the model you drove had the air suspension which would improve or atleast firm-up the suspension. Edmunds should have tested this model before making the 'floating' comments. Glad you enjoyed the drive.

Naysayers and the Edmunds test drive... by oac

Could never find anything good about an LS hence jumping on anything negative... Many have not even driven the car, yet they conclude the brakes are grabby, the rear seats are not accomodating enough, and the suspension is mush...

I'd just ignore whatever these people posts when it comes to a Lexus... Now let's read from those who have actually test driven this vehicle, pls....

As to Edmund's drive, their conclusions are ridiculous, and totally expected.... Their first drive, the only thing they could find on the pre-production LS was "it could park itself"... puleaze....

Did Edmunds even remember to mention that the S550 they tested and raved about was a standard LWB trim, whereas the LS460 they tested and gave "not yet" rating was on the SWB ? I am sure they also didn't bother to compare the LS numbers with the S550, or did they ? Xero listed the numbers showing the LS is equal or better than the S550 in everyway reasonable owners are concerned with... not slalom, or 1/4-mile shtuff...

"Now let's read from those who have actually test driven this vehicle."

Well, several folks who already drove the new LS mentioned the poor driver's foot well area which made one of them angry enough to measure it with a tape measure.

As for the grabby brakes, several professional reviews mention this problem, not only Edmund's.

Sorry, these things are not what you wish to hear, but they do seem to be real issues.

For the luxury comparison, why not get the loaded version?

I mean, really, we want to hear about the auto-park!
