Article comments for Full Test: 2007 Lexus LS 460 - The flagship of the fleet should be fashioned from an uncommon and uncompromised blend of technology and opulence. It should sport elements that distinguish it from the lesser vessels of the line, instill in its occupants an aura of invincibility and convey to the driver a lofty level of dynamic excellence, tempered but not tamed by a lush layer of luxury. I believe most people around here who want this car will ignore the Edmunds review and get it anyway. I would definitely drive the 2 different versions of the LS 460 before purchasing it: once with the regular suspension and also with the sportier suspension the second time. Who can say? Just listening to the improved ML sound system and feeling that caressing cool air circulating around my butt just might be enough of a deal maker!

In order to use it, one must move the front seat all the way forward but my legs were still blocked by the front seat. Another thing is the central console in the rear seats. I think the central console should be an option since I find the central console taken up some space that can be used by the 3rd occupant in the rear. For the LS460 (standard wheel base), the legroom and overall interior space is between the E-class and the new S-Class. The Good: Price. The LS460L has everything almost in standard and it's still cheaper than the S350 which has a V-6 and has much less standard options. I think build quality is slightly better than the new s-class. The Bad: Styling. Although a subjective thing, for me it looks like a 7 series or a scale up ES300 / Camry especially looking at it from the rear quarter. I really have high expectation in the styling of this car. Btw, Our family owned the stretched version of the new S500 (S550 for U.S.) with the ABC option. We will have a test drive of the LS460L on next Saturday.

This vehicle has improved more than marginally throughout its near 20 year existence, but if there is one thing that is about as predictable and staid as the LS' styling (a decidedly individual point given the vehicle's historical demographic), it is the bevy of reviews that seem to crop up at each subsequent makeover pointing out how the car always seems to be "just-short" of whatever bar the reviewer has set for it. Consequently, that bar just seems to keep climbing each time the germans re-introduce one of their own super-sedans. However the fact remains, just about every complaint that has ever been lodged against this sedan in the past (design not-withstanding) 15 years has in my opinion, been more than addressed with the latest iteration of the LS. More power, increased handling characteristics (do the reviewers not occasionally answer their *own* concerns?, i.e. an available Touring Package that increases handling ability even further?), the ability to COMPLETELY disable the traction and stability control systems etc... and meanwhile STILL at a price that is in line with or LOWER than its key competitors when comparably equipped. Now you'd probably expect I'm a Lexus/Toyota loyalist with that kind of talk, and you would be entirely wrong. My "loyalties" (if they can be called such a thing) lie most with the very brand that signifies everything the Lexus is always accused of falling short on. That's right, I'm a dyed in the wool BMW enthusiast. My problem lies simply with the fact that sometimes one vehicle or another seems to suffer from a mentality so deeply engrained in the reviewers mind that it could not possibly escape criticism. The LS460 despite being a Lexus and all that goes with it, just can't seem to ever manage pleasing the automotive press, despite the fact that it seems to be pleasing just about everyone that Toyota is satisfied to target. If you want a good example of what happens when you attempt to stray too far in the OTHER direction?... Just how many Q45's did Nissan sell this year? |

I wish they have the catagories for Luxury and Super Luxury. Since I do not think we can compare this LS460 with S550, they should be in the different catagory and consider them differently. After all, different price make it all different. By the way, have you all ever heard about TOYOTA Century? Just like Nissan Skyline, this car is only sold in Japan and some SE Asian Countries, the price is over US $150k and you have a choice of V8 & V12. V12 version is making over 450hp. Now only with V12. This is not secret, Century has been out there for 40 years now(since 1967). The reason they dont imported here is who would spend $150k for a toyota?

Replying to: kalargyi (Oct 22, 2006 6:03 pm) What are you talking about? Last time I checked the A8, 7-series, S-class, and LS were all direct competitors. Also, a Lexus is going to introduce a V12 Hybrid super-ultra-luxury sedan that will cost well over the six figure mark. Name is something like L650 as of now.
