Article comments for Full Test: 2007 Lexus LS 460 - The flagship of the fleet should be fashioned from an uncommon and uncompromised blend of technology and opulence. It should sport elements that distinguish it from the lesser vessels of the line, instill in its occupants an aura of invincibility and convey to the driver a lofty level of dynamic excellence, tempered but not tamed by a lush layer of luxury. the new LS has floaty suspension and grabby brakes, the LS all of a sudden doesn't seem to be much of a bargain at $60k-$75k. People who pay that kind of cash should demand a decent suspension and flawless brakes. Also, Edmunds, like Car and Driver could not replicate the 0-60mph time of 5.4 seconds claimed by Lexus. The best that Edmunds could do with the LS 460 was 5.8 seconds. So many reviews have come out about the LS 430 and now the LS 460 that ends with the same conclusion Edmunds came to in its recent review: This is a vehicle that the reviewers couldn't love. There are obviously better choices out there in the HELM realm. |

Have you read the LS 430 reviews? Edmunds, C&D, et al all loved the LS 430. As for the LS 460, Edmunds found the vehicle to be best-in-class for comfort. It's stereo system is considered among the best in the world--perhaps the very best. Yes, in the SWB model without the air suspension, they found its driving dynamics somewhat wanting. And styling is subjective--I myself find the car absolutely stunning. But we'll have to see how the 0-60 drivetimes shake out, as Edmunds has its own trend of testing, and other reviewers do so differently. For the Lexus buyer that demands the ultimate in luxury above all else, this car has it in spades. Just as Edmunds' mainpage headline puts it, "A First Class Ticket."

Replying to: hpowders (Oct 19, 2006 1:39 pm) I think the S Class looks properly nice a lot nicer than the LS430 which looks like a bloated Camry and too derivative of other Lexi. However, I think functionally, the LS is FAR better! Handling wise, most people barely push their Ferraris to the limit let alone their luxury cars so I don't think it matters. Most people drive their luxury cars a short distance to work and back at a sedate pace so really, anything more than 300hp is just wasteful excess anyway IMO. My father currently drives an R500 which he thinks is okay, but I think its horrible in terms of the feature content and just general idiosyncrasies; the S Class isn't much different in terms of its user friendliness and just retarded idiosyncrasies! (No Volume knob anyone? WTF?) And for that reason, when my dad decides to give the R500 to my mum next year, and is deciding b/w an S-Class and an LS I sure hope he gets the LS. And I'm not even a fan of luxury cars at all! |

Its interesting that Edmunds knocks the LS460's handling and ride, when they choose to go with the standard suspension. If you are going to say a car doesn't handle as well as you think it should, at least do it with the touring (sport) suspension. Its like saying a car is slow, but you only drove the standard engine and didn't opt for the more powerful optional engine.

Edmund should consider testing all LS vehicles to make the comments. They have tested the cheapest edition and said "NOT YET" is insult.
