Me and my 2006 Aveo by jules8

I picked up a brand new chevy aveo for under 10K at my local dealer. I bought one with no A/C and stick shift with just an AM/FM radio. The dealer wouldnt put an A/C into it so I took it over to my local automotive shop and had a factory air put in. It blows like an ice storm when its 90+ degrees outside. I installed an AM/FM with mp3/cd/usb/SD player into it after ordering the wiring harness of ebay. Took me less then an hr. This Feb will be 2 years and 30,000 miles later and I couldn't be happier. I have taken it on a few camping trips with my daughters and have been able to stuff the roomie hatchback to the hilt with camping gear.

The only one problem I have is tires that are rated on it don't seem to handle longer then 12,000 miles. I am looking for a set of tires that will go the distance for a person that does 30 miles each way on a 70mph plus highway that is a little rough on the road construction in my area. That and a nice set of seat covers that work well with side airbags.

The tire wear appears to be a common problem on the Aveo. The most I could get on a good set of Goodyears was approx. 20K miles. The very same tires (different size, of course) are on my daughter's Toyota Corolla, they have over 45K miles and the tread barely looks worn. I spoke with 2 sources about this issue (the local Gemini (Goodyear) tire store and a lifelong friend who has been in the tire business over 50 years) and they both said the same thing....the Aveo and the Chevy Malibu are extremely rough on front tires.

I guess the solution is to simply run cheap tires and change them quite often....

we are middle aged from Chicago area. Bought the 07 Aveo sedan because it was so sharp with the redesign. Love it!! Never a problem in bitter cold or snow. drive 500 miles a week and no issues!! AT and getting super mpg, i dont understand why so many on this forum are not seeing the 35+ mpg, as we get 39.5 on the interstate. It seems the faster we drive on the interstate, the better the mileage. Maybe its the overdrive tranny?

I have a 2006 sedan LS, five speed, bought new so my wife and I could save for a house (traded in my black, fully-loaded 2001 Mustang GT... weep)

Likes: Cargo space, nice stereo, very cheap, tight turning radius, easy to park amongst the behemoths in the city garage when I go to work

Dislikes: Throttle body warp caused horrible bucking, surging, and "limp mode" in very, very dangerous driving locations; dealer experience for warranty work was awful (took 4 tries and 3 months, and they had to work on it a fifth time because they broke something on the gas tank - completely opposite end of the car from where the problem was); it's horribly unstable in wind; it's slow; nasty body lean on anything but the slowest turns; it makes all my passengers nauseous (they LOVED the loaner cars); mileage isn't bad, but it's not very good for the size of the car; my engine mounts are rotting

To be frank, I didn't expect anything out of the car, given its price tag (12,000 before incentives), except that it would run, and it has failed to live up to expectations. The only car sold in the U.S. in the last 20 years that I can remember being so disappointing, overall, is the Yugo. Granted, it's far superior to a Yugo, but that's not the sort of yardstick you thump your chest about....

I just thought I'd introduce myself and my car. I'm 42 and self-employed as a writer of computer books. I bought a new (2008) Aveo LT 4-door sedan about two weeks ago, shortly after my 1992 Saturn SL died on me. (The brakes gave out, and I was given a $2000 repair estimate.) I knew the Saturn didn't have much life left in it even before it failed, so I'd begun preliminary research a while ago. I was initially thinking of getting a Honda Fit or Scion xD, but was drawn/pushed toward the Aveo by circumstances -- car dying suddenly, Chevy dealer being nearby, "employee price for everybody" sale, Fits being on 2-week back-order, Scions selling for $1,000 above sticker price in my area, and a discovery of just how tiny the cargo areas in these small hatchbacks are without the rear seats being folded down. The local Chevy dealer had an LT equipped more-or-less the way I wanted it: It's a base LT with no extra options. I'd trade the alarm and power windows and door locks for ABS, but otherwise it's a good feature mix.

My likes so far: Roomy feel, roomy trunk, AC (my '92 Saturn lacked that), cruise control, MP3-capable stereo, sensible controls (with some minor exceptions), good interior, good price (at least with the GM sale price), more air bags than my Saturn.

My dislikes so far: No ABS, a few minor control & display issues.

The jury's still out: Reliability, handling (it's very different from my Saturn, and I'm still adjusting).

Hello all.

Here is a "6 month review" on my Aveo. I bought a 07 sedan, LT, with most of the bells and whistles. I got it in Feb. of this year and received a sweet deal from Chevy b/c apparently this one had been sitting around awhile. I guess the average buyer would go ahead and move up to the Cobalt instead of buying a high-end Aveo.

Anyway, here is what I think after owning this car for about 6 months.

The Good: upscale interior, the leatherette is lookin' good and easy to clean, car handles well and is super-easy to park, solid set of modern features, above-par stereo with 6-disc in-dash with mp3 ability, 180 watts, and mp3 player plug in. big trunk for this car, smooth ride, head room.

Not-so-good: buzzy, droning engine noise, lightweight feel, not much power, gas mileage isn't what I thought, keyfob range is pretty much reduced to being right "up on the car" before it will work, cupholders only work for a regular soda can

Overall, there are more good things about this car than bad. I would buy another one; it meets and exceeds the purpose for which it was purchased. It isn't a Malibu by any stretch but it more than holds its own. I get lots of questions about it.
If nobody cared, they wouldn't ask.

The one complaint I really have an issue with is the cupholders in this car. In this day and age of oversized coffee traveler mugs, super large cups, etc etc, the present cupholders in the Aveo leave A LOT to be desired. I figured Chevy/GM would have fixed this issue for the 2009 Aveo 5 door, but it appears they kept the same Dollar store set from previous years. Hey Chevy, I love the car, but please, put some decent cupholders in the Aveo.

We are new owners of a 2008 silver Aveo -less than 2 weeks. We like the car- gas mileage is great, last car was an SUV. At 1.39 per gallon, it only took $10 to fill the tank. It has a very nice look, but is a bit spare in the armrest and console dept. So far, it handles nicely, is a bit delicate seeming; but that could be our history with an SUV. The first problem is the snow driving...it skids and slides. We have decided that we can no longer be out in the snow...how sad. Any solutions?

I'm also having a terrible time in the snow! I LOVE my Aveo in any other weather, but it is uncontrolable in the snow. Please, other owners, tell me what to do! It was a total nightmare getting to work this morning.
