Versa SL with ABS - no convenience pkg

After getting the run around from my local Nissan dealer (ordered in Aug and then dealer canceled the order in late Sept saying they couldn't order a Versa SL with ABS), I visited another dealer in a larger city. They went into their system and changed the options on a car they ordered three weeks ago to match what I wanted and the order was accepted! Delivery date is late Dec tho. I can't quite figure out why it takes so long when this car is already being built for sale in other countries.

When you placed your order, did you already negotiate the price, or do you have to pay MSRP?

None of the dealers I spoke came down from MSRP. I have a trade-in so all I was interested in was getting a certain amount for that.

<< (including the audio package and sunroof package that no one else has seen) >>
I live in Illinois and have a fairly loaded blue onyx SL with CVT, the audio package (subwoofer), and sunroof that is about a month old now. So they are trickling out.

I received confirmation of a FIRM arrival date of late Oct./early Nov for my 6-speed SL w/ ABS (but without Convenience Pkg.) back in early Sept. (I had ordered the specific car back in mid-August, as earlier posted.) After hearing about order problems through this forum, I contacted my dealer last week with my concerns and asked for a reconfirmation of the ETA..... A week passed with no reply. A second email was sent asking for an update..... Two days passed with no reply. Since this silence had occurred before when the dealer I am working with had bad news, I decided to call.
Sure enough. He said that Nissan had cancelled the order and that they had to reorder. Said he would contact me in a couple days to let me know when the arrival day might be, but couldn't tell me if it would be two weeks or 10 MORE weeks. What is Nissan doing?! When people are patient enough to place an order for the exact car they want and wait 8-10 weeks, they expect the vehicle to arrive as promised. How can Nissan get away with cancelling orders behind their dealers' backs? Terrible business practices!

It is very frustrating and makes me wonder why there is such an issue with ABS when they put it on the Sentra. Ask your dealer if they can go into an order they already have in Nissan's system (for their own stock and not an order for a customer) and change it to match the options you want. That's what my dealer did and the order was accepted. It might save a few weeks time.

Thanks for the info. Actually, I called the Nissan customer service center today and they said that Nissan does not cancel dealer orders. She told me that a Nissan district rep will be contacting me within the week to look into the problem with my order. I just hope this gets resolved soon. I've been trying to give Nissan my money for the past three months, and they just don't seem to want to take it.

Don't put too much stock in what the Customer Serv Ctr says. I've called them quite a few times and get different answers each time. They also told me someone would call, it didn't happen. One rep told me that they have less info than the dealer. Make sure the dealer you are ordering from is a large Nissan dealer. I have a feeling the smaller dealers don't have enough clout to do anything. Where are you located?

I would still wait on the ABS. Based on the Dec Consumer Reports article, there is a big difference between the ABS and non-ABS stopping distances in their tests.

The dealer is quite small, so I'm wondering if, like you said, their orders are given less precedence than bigger dealerships.
How does the whole "placing an order" work anyway? According to the phone service rep, Nissan cannot cancel dealer orders, but my dealer said that's what happened. Who's right? What is the actual process?
Being I'm having trouble, I called around to see if any Fits are available in my area, and the Honda dealers seemed to have a VERY clear idea of the dates Fits where being produced, ship out, and received. Does Nissan have a less precise system for checking on cars that they are supposed to receive or something?
