The '06 WRX gets upgraded 4-caliber front brakes. I believe these brakes require 17" wheels, which are now standard on the WRX, but still optional on the 9-2X. This leads me to believe that the 9-2X Aero did not get the same WRX brake upgrade. Another possibility (assuming that 4-caliber brakes would work with 16" wheels) is that the name "SUBARU" is cast onto brake caliber, and the cost of removing that just might be too great.
