| Lotus/Proton should go beg GM for the new Ecotec 2.0L direct injected turbo motor used in the Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky. Bet *that* would wake up the Europa! 260hp in a 2100lb car? Oh, yeah! | |

If the Europa's interior doesn't look like that of a $77,000 car, that's because it *isn't.* Direct conversions of UK prices are never accurate indicators of U.S. prices. If that were true, the Elise would sell for over $55,000, rather than its actual $42,990 MSRP. I'm similarly confused about the "not a real Lotus" criticism. The article states that this chassis is "Lotus-built and developed," that it offers "pure Lotus" handling and control feel, and that you'll recognize the interior "from any other Lotus." Sounds like all that Proton was originally intended to contribute, besides some styling work, was *the badges.* So, let me get this straight: if you remove those badges, and replace them with Lotus ones, that makes the Europa an "underachieving impostor?" Call me confused. |
