What happened with this? I having the same problem with my 2003 Liberty Sport 4x4 - took it in for 75K service and got it back with the slip. Jeep won't pay for another dealer to look at it. I feel like this is a service scam and I'm being ripped off and totally inconvenienced. Dealer says they can't do anything about it and want me to plead with Jeep to cover the work as I am past the 70K limit. A minor version of this happened when I previously had the fluid changed (lived in another state), took it back the next day and it was corrected.
Anyone else having this problem and found a solution?
#99 of 181 early shifting
Jan 22, 2010 (10:05 am)
I have a 2005 liberty with 68000 miles.the problem I am having is the jeep shifts in to overdrive too early.when I accelerate it shifts normal but goes into high at about 40-45 mph,but I have to give it more "gas" ,then it down shifts until it gets to around 60 mph.the only way to eliminate the problem is to really get on it from the start, then relax the acceleration when my speed is aquired, then it goes to overdrive.thank -you for any advice. tranny has been recently flushed, but original filter I assume.
#100 of 181 2003 Jeep Liberty Jerks

I started having problems with my Jeep Liberty tonight. When I was on the freeway I heard this "bang" and then the truck jerked, after that I had loss of power, After I pulled to the side I turned the motor off, waited 30 seconds and started the truck, it was find and lasted that way for the rest of the evening. Does anybody know what happen. I am taking it in tomorrow.

Thanks for the response. I will look into the throttle control module. I have noticed a very small deviation in RPM when the problem seems to occur. At 700 RPM (nomal idle) there is no problem. At 725 to 750 RPM (hard to tell) the tranny keeps pulling against the brakes. My temporary "work-around" is to slip it onto neutral any time I feel I am braking against the transmission. I think I need to take it to the dealer to have the PCM scanned. Since my alternator failed & drained the battery I have had some strange things happen. The tranny problems started about that time and I get occasional lights on and off on the dash. Maybe I need a "reflash" or update or something. AAMCO transmission could not get anything from their scan so they told me to take it to a dealer.
#102 of 181 Rough Shift and jerk @ 20mph
May 10, 2010 (6:00 pm)
05 CRD 91k miles on it. Shifting rough at 20mph, worse when accelerating slowly, whole jeep will jerk when shifting. Usually does at first start up, then once or twice more then works self out. Occasional rough shift at 40-45 mph. Had torque converter recall done in 2006.
Taken to dealer 4 times and they could not reproduce problem. Had computer flashed and all fluids, filters etc done. This has been going on for 6 months.
Finally got service tech to feel it this am. Service rep working with my extended warrantly company.
I have the feeling extended warranty company will try to weasel out of this. Adjuster meeting my service rep tomorrow to go over repairs. Also have turbo and intercooler/boost tubes issues going on.
Any ideas on what could be causing the transmission issues? The more info I have the better.
Thanks in advance (still love the vehicle, just need her fixed)

We are having the very exact same problem. They replaced internal transmission module but the problem exists still. What was the result of your issue?

#105 of 181 2003 Jeep Liberty AT Problem
Jun 25, 2010 (11:33 am)
I have a 2003 Jeep Liberty 2x4 / 4 speed AT. I purchased this vehicle new in Q3 of 2003. The dealer recommended a trans service while in for the 30K service (early 2006). Upon p/u, I noticed a hard upshift between 1st & 2nd gear & also a very hard downshift from 4th to 3rd. I brought it back to the dealer & they re-flashed the trans. This fixed the hard downshift between 3rd & 4th but the hard shift between 1st & 2nd remained. They adamantly explained that it was working properly & sent me on my way.
Fast forward to June 2010… my jeep now has 56K miles. The hard shift between 1st & 2nd is still there but another problem between 3rd & 4th has presented itself. There is a hesitation between 3rd & 4th gear & the engine revs/tach spikes before it hits 4th gear. I took it to the dealer & they broke down the trans. They tell me I need a new trans. Luckily, this is covered under the 7/70K Powertrain warranty. Then they tell me that I am getting a remanufactured trans. When I ask what type of warranty comes with this "new" remanufactured trans, they tell me that there is no additional warranty - that I only get the remainder of the original 7/70K Powertrain warranty.
Questions: 1. Has anyone else had this problem/situation? 2. If so, how was it resolved & were you pleased w/the results? 3. Should I be concerned with receiving a "remanufactured" trans as opposed to a "new" trans? 4. Is it standard practice to not warranty something like this (parts &/or labor)?
Thanks for the info!

does anyone know anything about the tranny not going into reverse or neutral but will go into drive! Also there is a wine when it goes into reverse only after sitting a while.
