I own two Magnums, an SXT and an R/T. While I'm very happy with both Magnums, there are a few things that could be changed:

Dress up the interior. Too much plastic & vinyl. Maybe provide the option for some wood trim along with the leather package.

Better seats. The VW Passat GLX has terrific seats for a wagon and long trips are a breeze. The Magnum seats are OK but not as supportive as the VW. More side and lumbar support.

Move the coin holder from the center console box to the drivers door or somewhere else handy. If you have to pay a lot of tolls, it is a pain to flip the lid and fish for money.

Re-engineer the cargo area with the pop-up egg-crate style organizers Dodge uses on the mini-vans. Would make it even easier for my wife's grocery trips versus the simple netting.

Add real towing capacity. 2000 lbs is a joke for such a big engine. I realize it comes down to frame design but , c'mon how hard could it be to make this thing haul 3500 lbs stock with the HO V-6 or the Hemi? I would not even think of an SUV again if the Magnum could do it all.

Make them more ipod friendly. And all Magnum CD players need mp3 capability. Also consider some sort of memory storage device like an SD card plug in so drivers could pop in a gig or more of mp3's.

Backup camera hooked into an updated LCD screen drivers information/navigation system. The Magnum has a few blind spots and this would be a nice help. Take a look at the Lexus IS250 Nav system for a good example.

Better roof rack system that would easily integrate with aftermarket systems like Thule or Yakima. It is confusing trying to figure out how to configure a multi-function roof rack for a Magnum. My Dodge dealer was baffled.

Add Rain sensing intermittent wipers

Rear window that either rolls up & down or hinges out. This would allow long 2x4s or moldings to extend outside the car. Old station wagons had this capability.

Apart from the rep for having lots of mechanical problems, one of the things that steered me away from the magnum was its cargo area. It's fine for holding suitcases and stuff, but what if you haul around a dog, like we do? Back off on the dark window tinting -- it's too much and makes it very claustrophic in the back. (What I did love though was the flippable cargo floor with carpet on one side and vinyl on the other -- genius!!!) Also I found the rear heat/ac vents for the back seat passengers extremely weak. I borrowed an R/T on a hot day and there's just not enough air flow in the back of the car -- guess you'd have to crank open the rear windows. Last thing, minor as it is, I agree with the reviewers that said the steering is "numb." You feel almost nothing -- it's just wierd feeling!

The Magnum is a huge diasappointment for me. I rented a Magnum last week. The engine was a 2.7 L. The power was only adaquate, and lacked in passing power. The ride was noisy. The blind spots were too numerious to count. I would rate the blind spots as dangerous, a double take is required to make sure a vehicle was not hidden in a blind spot the first time you looked. The cheap rough plastic was profuse everywhere. The fit and finish of the Magnum made a KIA look like a refined well crafted vehicle. We tried for a good 30 minuets looking for an adjustment for the bass on the radio, and never found it. The wind and road noise was not as quiet as an old Neon.
When refueling the Magnum it was not very clear how to open the fuel cover, so a look in the owners book took care of that. Fuel mileage was 16 mpg, far from the 25 Enterprise told us we should expect.
Unless a persom wants a Hemi engine this is a waste of good money. The reason for the "gangster" station wagon lowrider design is a wonder to me, and other adults over 40. Clearly someone at DCX is out of touch with what quality means.
Withe the underpinings of the Chrysler 300, it is clear that quality is available, and for the price of the Magnum DCX needs to share some of the quality features with the Magnum. Only time will see if the resale value will hold much value at trade in time.
   Buyer be ware.

Just a quick reply on certain points(I own '06 R/T AWD):
- Fit and finish are fine on mine
- Sort of disappointed with plastic interior but found it holds up well to bumps and scrapes.
- Like you couldn't change radio settings but my 17 yr old nephew changed them w/out the manual under a minute...must be all that playstation/xbox/ipod stuff
- Fuel door, had same problem on a friend's 325i...you push and it opens (i too had to read the bmw manual)
- "ganster design"? sorry, I'm over 50 and love it.
Bottom line, love my magnum......

zimsmagnum: I am sure that the RT AWD has to be better. Enterprise buys the very least priced vehicle they can. But I think the Magnum I drove must be available to be sold to the general public? I f so unless these cracker boxes (not meaning yours) has a cost of no more than $19,500, then it's a ripoff.

I'm a 40 year old adult male and LOVE my Magnum RT. With rebates/discounts/haggling I was able to get a pretty well loaded RT for around $28k. I challenge anyone to find another comparable vehicle for that price when it comes to roominess, cargo capacity, power, performance and features (dual zone auto climate, power driver and passenger seats, heated leather seating, power adjustable pedals, Sirius satellite for one year included). Believe me, I've looked I wasn't able to find anything close.

The number one change I would like to see is to be able to open the glass window on the rear hatch like some SUVs can.
