We bought out 2001 Pontiac Aztek new and love the size, comfort and headroom but we don't like the list of repairs we have had to do. We have 150,000 miles on the car, but we have been good at keeping up with all the maintenance as described and we still have had the following issues: Thermostat fixed twice under warranty but only worked for one season and then stopped. Blown head gasket at 73,000 miles New Sensor 9 I can't remember which one) New computer (just two weeks ago) Problems with the rear breaks leaking And now the car whines as you accelerate and it hesitates when it shifts. I love the vehicle, but I don't think I would buy another because of all the EXPENSIVE issues we have had. aamidei |

It seems the calipers were on the wrong side, I don't know how they did it, but once I swapped them and put new rotors and pads on it hasn't been a problem since. That was in Jan '07. Plus, my tranny has been shifting hard. Does anybody know what might be causing this. Doesn't always happen but often. Oh!! My car is a lemon too!!!!! |

I just completed a thermostat removal and install of a new one. It took about 5 hrs. and a little aggravation, but all in all not bad. However I did not follow the instructions as set forth by mechanics or Pontiac repair manual. I discovered that you need only to remove the heat shield along w/some other minor disassembly and was completely successful. If you need more info please ask.

Just recently I have had my 2001 Aztek giving me an Overheating warning light no service engin soon light came on. Well I had to pull over to let the car "cool" down and did this several times. I took it to the dealership that morning and they stated that i had a bad sensor. Well they went ahead and replaced the sensor and thermostat and flushed the radiator, Welll that was on Tuesday that I got my car back drove it that night and again i got the warning and this time the tempture gauge was moving up and down before it "overheated". So i took it back to the dealership and they stated it had air pockets from the flush. So Thursday it worked fine all day until Thursday night again it went inot the "overheating" state cold air was blowing from my vents. So I am now back at the dealership and very confused about what is going on with my car. Reading this I am hoping that I dont have to pay for the manifold.. ugh... |
