Edmunds editors often fall into the category of, alas, idiots.

They complain that heated seats are too hot. They are testing in....let me remember this....ah, yes!...Southern California! A cold morning there is brrrrrr 50 degrees! I live in Minnesota. Cold is 30 below zero. I appreciate the fact that Buick put some heated seats that actually WORK where it might get cold! When I get in a car in January, I want the heated seats to work RIGHT NOW, and it's good that Buick gave people the option.

Edmunds: If the seats are too hot, turn them off!!! Why not complain about the heater? "On our drive to Vegas through 108 degree temps, we found the Lucerne's heater, which we turned to full blast, much too hot!"

I find Edmunds reviewers are sloppy. They are also remarkably sheltered -- there is more to the world than just Santa Monica and the hills around L.A. Oh, and they have trouble writing well, perhaps my pet peeve.

Case in point: Bad writing 101.

"After a few days we all learned to avoid the seat heater button on the door panel, but the Lucerne's botched bun warmers aren't the only thing about Buick's newest sedan that left us cold."

Ummm, I thought they left you too hot? Oh, I see, the reviewer was being clever!

Sorry to rant, but the Edmunds folks are soooo sloppy.

Scott Oldham writes:

"Even the 4.6-liter Northstar V8 is graying around its temples. In the Lucerne, it's rated at 275 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 290 pound-feet of torque at 4,400 rpm. Impressive numbers five or six years ago, but the much smaller V6 engines in the 2006 Hyundai Azera and 2006 Toyota Avalon nearly match that output. In fact, the 3.5-liter V6 in the Toyota is rated at 280 hp."

Umm, Scott? Go do a little research. It takes all of three clicks on that old computer to find Toyota's website about Avalon numbers:

3.5-liter DOHC 24-valve Dual VVT-i V6
268 hp 6200 rpm
248 lb.-ft. 4700 rpm

That's all.

Sounds like the reviewers just were not happy. They did have some very good points like turning radius and braking distance. And we all know the architechture is getting old.

But they complain about some missing features like one touch "up" windows and tele wheel. Yeah that is something that the competition has but why did they not rave about the features the competition does not have like the mag ride control, rear park assist, heated windshield wipers, cooled seats, remote vehicle starter and OnStar? And then they say it is should be priced around $25k? Is there any car out there that has these kind of features for under $30K or even $35K? Closest one is the Avalon and they do not have most of these features even available.

Then there are 3 owner reviews and they all rave. Of course you would expect that since they bought one but none complained about the ride or lack of power.

Since this is a forum where Lucerne owners come to lets ask them. CXL V8 owners:

are the heated seats too hot?
Is the V8 underpowered for you, a Buick driver?
Is the suspension tuned too softly/floaty and hard to get around corners?

The Lucerne is a great looking car with lots of features. It is made to attact a crowd that wants a comfy ride. Options and features are chosen to meet the customers demands they are after.

After reading the review it appears the writer is mad he didn't get to road test a Corvette. How many people buy a Buick as a street racer? All the major negatives he cites.. heavy car, low fuel mileage, 4 speed transmission, etc., have all been discussed here and in other forums. He finds nothing really new to complain about except a seat heater. Big deal.

The fit and finish on the Lucernes I have seen looks as good as the Avalon, Ford 500 and Azera. If it didn't, I would quit looking at the car as a possible purchase. The ride is fine for a big sedan.

The review is interesting, but of little value. Again, the writer has an attitude. Give him a Porsche Turbo, bet that seat heater works fine, especially on a 75 degree afternoon. It even has that "off" switch. German engineering, you know. Gimme a break.....

I have never considered Edmund's to be legitimate in their test drives. They are Japanese biased and their reviews that I have read are riduculous to say the least.

My buns and back wouldn't be caught dead in an Azera. Bad seats. No point in going any further.

Okay, nice to see others feel the same way. I just am irritated that the edmunds reviewers are so sloppy and so darn 'clever.' I was thinking this morning. If the seat warmers are such a big deal, if they were so hot as to actually burn people (which isn't the case) why not do this:
1: Measure just how hot the seat warmers are? Thermometers cost all of about 10 bucks.
2: If they really are like sitting over an open flame (a prefered sport in some parts of L.A., I recall) then by all means SOUND AN ALARM. Warn the feds, post a press release finding this dangerous device!

Of course, this is not the case. The seat warmers are not dangerous, they are just hot. So hot for warmish L.A. that those goofy wannabe sitcom writers/edmunds reviewers just have to unload their bag of so-darn-funny! overstatements to the mix. How slow is a v6 powered Lucerne? Slow enough to get overtaken by the milk wagon!!! Oh ho ho ho! Stop it, you're killing me!!!!

Says me: Well, how slow is a v6 Lucerne. Why not test the thing? It's probably about as slow as a regular old standard issue Camry, or about two seconds FASTER to 60 than a Prius, but we'll never know..

Sorry to be in a bad mood, but the Lucerne reviewer has some legitimate cripes to discuss (mpg, turning radius), but they get clouded by the sheer lameness of the review. I won't waste any more time here. Over and out.
