PT missfiring, engine bucking by pseres

I have a 2002 PT Limited 5-speed with 15,000 miles on it. At times the engine missfires, and the car bucks and lurches forward. It doesn't run like this all the time, it is an intermittent problem. my observation is that it gets worse as the engine gets warmer. I have had it to the dealer twice, they reprogrammed the computer, but that didn't help. They are now recommending that I clean the fuel injectors, but clearly thay are just guessing at repair solutions. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Hi,
I have a 2004 Touring Edition Pt Cruiser with 7,000 miles. I brought it in because it also was misfiring. The dealer updated the computer and installed new spark plugs because the old plugs would not work with the updated computer program. Your dealer should know what is wrong because this is a common problem with the PT's, though they might tell you they don't!!!

My PT engine light come on, then it will down shift into a lower gear and won't come out of it. When I switch the engine on and off three times It give me three problem codes P1682, P1684 and P0700. Also the air bag light come on all the time. The dealer won't tell me whats those codes represent. They want me to bring the car to them. Can someone help me?

Have someone check the wiring to the O2 sensors. There might be a kink in the wiring, that will intermittently kill the sensors, giving the computer faulty air/fuel mixture readings, and cause this exact problem. It affects not just idle, but acceleration. What you described is exactly the problem my 2003 GT was having. Trust me, I replaced the plugs, plug wires, and the dealer still couldn't find the problem (my car spent 7 weeks in 3 months in the shop). I took it to another dealer and they found the problem only after their diagnostics found 2 faulty O2 sensors(what are the odds of that happening?).

I've been having the same problem with my 03 PT Cruiser. I took it to the dealership who said that they have noticed some of the PT Cruisers running rough, but not all of them. They did a tune up and reloaded my car's computer. I just picked it up yesterday and the car seems to be running fine. Of course, nothing was covered under warranty. For $465, it better do the trick!

I have an 03 PT and I love the car. I just started having the problem of it missfiring and bucking upon take off. I haven't taken it to the dealership yet. It started last week. I took it to a local mechanic and they said it would cost $277 to do a tune-up with spark plugs, and wires, etc. The car stopped acting up after that (check engine light also shut off). When I filled the tank with gas it started acting up again. It only last about 20 miles then it works fine again. Could it be a fuel filter (or pump) problem?

I have read about starting problems on the PTs I have a problem were the car will not start at all. All dashboard lights work and the headlights dont dim when I try to start the car with the lights on ,I get no noise, no clicking just dead .
I have added a new battery cable to the starter as per feedback on this forum and thought it worked but after a month I was unable to start again yesterday. When I try and jump the car battery it will just sit there and then for some reason it jump started after 10 trys.
It doesnt seem to be a battery are starter problem. Maybe a ignition switch?
Someone said something about the alarm system doing this. Does anyone know how to disconnect the alarm system? Any help PLEZ
