I ordered a 2007 S model 6-speed manual Pepper White/ Black for mid-February 2007 Motoring.

I view this as our "fun" car, our 3rd car - sporty, fun, quick performance, good gas mileage, BMW complete redesign for upscale refinement, useful with fold-down seats for 4, hatchback carrying capacity, and fairly exclusive for a $25k car. It has features and interior/ exterior design no other car has.

Our Car #1 for all-around purposes is a 2005 BMW X3 which we took Euro Delivery and had a ball in Munich, Bavaria, Austria, and mountain climbing in Switzerland.

Our Car #2 is a 1993 RX-7 twin-turbo I bought new 14 years ago and it's modified to 335 hp, and 2,639 pounds curb weight. You've seen a red 1993 RX-7 of Vin Diesel's in the original Fast and The Furious, and in the latest Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift the Yellow/Orange and Black RX-7 with both having wild Hollywood body kits.

So I feel qualified to discuss the Forum's concern whether the 2007 MINI S has enough power and performance. The MINI S is "quick" while there are other cars "fast" or "ultrafast" that'll outrun the MINI S in one or more dimensions - 0 to 60, 1/4 mi., top speed, shortest stopping, lateral "G's" etc.

The mature view, in my opinion is "So what?" On the street, even the most performance oriented driver uses the "fast"/ "ultrafast" full capability beyond the "quick" MINI S capability 1%, 2%, or 5% of the time - you pick your own number.

The point is, the MINI S for 95%-99% of the time delivers all that a "fast" or "ultrafast" car does. 100% of the time a MINI S is a blast to drive and surprisingly useful with 4-passenger capability; with the hatch and fold-down rear seats you can tour in the car and even haul some stuff from Lowe's.

I think the 2007 MINI Cooper S is terrific!

Im fully looking forward to getting in the seat of a new 2007 MINI COOPER S, and because of Mini's excelent trade in value, my 2005 is worth almost as much as I paid for it. Therefore I can get a new Mini relativily cheap. I love the interior, and guess what guys now I will be able to actually use the cup holders for drinks, how exciting. The exterior still needs to grow on me a little. But overall im buying a new one the day it comes out on the market.

Gotta agree with 06James on this. The Mazda looks gawky and a bit cheap, and in terms of driving experience hp is rarely the whole story.

I don't have a Mini, but I think it's great to see an injection of style into this whole segment of the market. I was thinking BMW 3 coupe again (had an 02), but the Cooper S is tempting.

To all of you whom it may concern....that are obviously no- Mini owners: I have my Second Mini S model and I will probably neverwant another car again over a Mini! These cars are in the least...AMAZING FEATS OF AUTOMOBILE AND PERFORMANCE ENGINEERING! My Mini S is fully loaded with the Cooper werks as well has Alta intake system,etc... There isnothing short of a Lamborghini that will even remotely keep up with me on the free ways and this comes from someone whom has owned a plethora of Porsches, Mercedes, Beamers, and yes a Lambo! For all of you ummmm rice burners with the big exhaust pipes and no engine lol please put your money where your mouth is because I will anyday to simply show you what the finish line looks like from 2nd or third place. I have 10 grand cash if you can beat my mini with your lil SI or Mazda, or S2000

Hi John:

I got the same exact car as you got (2007 mini cooper S pepper white 6-speed) and could not be happier. I agree with you 100% that this is a "fun" car and should not replace cars that are more practical. I just placed an order for a 2009 subaru forester which would be our practical car (awd, lots of room, good mpg, slow as hell).

As far as fun cars go, its very hard to beat the mini cooper S. Speed is not everything. I could have easily bought a vette but would not have the stupid grin on my face after driving it like I do with the mini cooper.
