I prefer my twisties to have a runoff area.

There are tons of nice curvy back roads in the South. Problem is that most of them are some combination of the following: narrow, bumpy, unpaved, populated by pre-roadkill, populated by the Cataract Squad.

Doesn't quite compare, but it's still nice by redmaxx

State route 89 between Clarkdale, AZ and Prescott, AZ, through Jerome. It gets pretty twisty and it is narrow in a few places. I drove it over the Labor day weekend and it is demanding...if you're driving a Suburban. Otherwise it's tame compared to the link originally posted but it is quite enjoyable and the views are fantasic.

Kill Boy Shade tree corner by desmolicious

Is named after the photographer's nickname who hangs out there and takes photos of everyone coming around that turn. They are posted on his website and can be ordered from him. So nothing sinister for that corner (at least)!

Yeah, but leaving the reader dangling like that makes for a more exciting story.

From a Motorcyclist by hornetgirl

I am a girl from California. There are some sweet roads out there. I currently live in Arkansas, believe it or not, renound for their motorcycling roads! We motorcylists cheat, though. A good start would be this book: Arkansas Rider's Guide (Spiral-bound) by Mario Caruso (Author). Plenty of motorcycling magazines outline good rides as well. I recommend the ones that highlight the bikes, not the 1/2 naked girls. They tend to be more about the ride. To clarify, I am not opposed to 1/2 or all naked girls, but I'll buy those magazines when I want to see nekked girls, and buy the motorcycle magazines when I want to see motorcyles, and articles on roads, safety, etc. There are good resources for what types of roads, about the speed of the curves, quality of the roads, amount of traffic, etc. If you are twisty road enthusiast, it will open a whole new world to you!

Speaking of roads, what does Edmunds use for their road test videos? San Gabriel mountains?

I have several places I love to drive in the area.

First: Hwy 78 from Ramona to Julian. Just down 78 a bit from Julian is the turnoff to S3 into Borrego Springs. Be sure and hike up to Palm Canyon while you are there. In the Spring the cactus are blooming and you will probably see Desert Bighorn Sheep.

Off the same Hwy 78 is the intersection known as Santa Ysabel. Stop in a Dudley's bakery then onto Hwy 79. You will pass a very nice little mission on your trip to Warner Hot Springs. This is becoming a popular retirement area. They have a world class glider airfield with glider rides over the desert. This is the route I take on trips to Palm Springs. As a side trip from Hwy 79 take S22, it is a great winding road down to Borrego Springs. It is well marked on Hwy 79. A little passed Warner Springs is the turn-off to Hwy 371 at Aguanga. This is more wide open spaces with little civilization. It meets up with Hwy 74 that takes you down to the desert floor at Palm Desert in just a few miles. Great vistas with pull-outs to enjoy the view. I have had to wait for Bighorn Sheep to cross the road.
These are great trips to try out that sport sedan. Just slow down going by any donut shops.
