Hello, Im new here. I was wondering with the 2002 Xterra SE Supercharged, it states in the owners manual that premiem fuel is recomended. What about mid-grade fuel..can it be used as well? From my understanding regular fuel shouldn't be used. What about if you add a octane booster to the vehicle if using regular. Any suggestions? Replying to: rocker19 (Sep 22, 2006 7:12 pm) premium is recommended so you don't get pre-ignition the supercharger is forcing more air into the cylinder at high pressure so you air fuel mix has a possibility to self ignite and cause detonation. this is when the gas fires before top dead center causing the piston to try and go up against the force of the explosion.(not a good thing) Always use premium it will be cheaper than an additive. and cheaper than a expensive repair
