Replying to: KarenS (Sep 22, 2006 7:34 am) However, in addition to the comments in the first drive, I note that a Camry can list for over $30,000. Meanwhile, a loaded '07 Sebring lists for $26,000. I would think that in this price segment $4,000 represents a lot of money. Additionally, visiting Toyota/Honda/Nissan dealership for "maintenance" tends to be expensive. Priced an oil change at one of the dealership recently? My point is that comparing a Camry/Accord/Altima to a Fusion/Milan or Sebring isn't an apple to apple comparison. |

Reason: My wife's '99 Mazda Protege LX 1.8L hit a pothole and bent the rim slightly (some vibration at higher speeds). When we brought it in to the Mazda Dealer he quoted us for parts totaling $600 not including labor(strut, sway bar, rim, tire). I replaced just the rim, used, $65.00 tire included, problem fixed but lesson learned. My wife freaked. Parts are as expensive as a BMW but it is just a Mazda, and this Mazda is past its 6 year extended warantee.

What I am really looking forward to is the Dodge Avenger variant since the handling will surely become more aggressive and tighten up and the overall design becomes more aggressive. And since they touched on the interior it really sucks that they didn't talk about a single feature that the Sebring has that the others don't. Really the article really wasn't good journalism but just an attempt the bash Chrysler on a design theme you are sure to see duplicated by everyone else in a year or two. It's just amazing that everyone is doing in your face grills and front ends on their vehicles, hmmm I wonder who started that??!? |

and it was close to 20K msrp Anyhow: Pros: Styling: This is sharp. On the net, it looked bad. Ride: compared 2 the Fusion and Sonata, it's great, and better than Malibu, too. About = to Optima(new one, 2006.5-2007 models, Not the old one). Steering wheel(placement) to seat: Perfect. Almost as good(as the best I liked) as the 99 Maxima I tested. Seat comfort: for a base Chrysler, above avg. Very good!!!!! Comfortable, indeed. In the Middle: Interior: kind of cheap looking(like the review said). But, I did like the general idea. 0-60... it seems no faster than the I-4(GEMA) engine in the Optima( it has 161HP vs 173 in the Sebring). maybe the 5 speed automatic vs 4 speed in the Sebring is why they both felt on par of "fastness"). The Sebring seemed to struggle more, too( can you tell, I am , in th e future, perhaps considering a Sebring or Optima). The 5 speed(on Optima, sorry for the "dual" comparison review here...on normal speeds, take offs, felt smoother and quieter. Both were noisy and somewhat sluggish on flooring it to get moving up to speed). The Fusion also has a 5 speed, But No Auto-manual shift(they do come in handy at times, especially on these 4 cylinders, if ya need extra "oomph" to pass in traffic, downshift one gear, and off ya go... Optima 5 speed wins this, over even auto-manual Sonata, I-4, 4 speed auto-manual). Cons: MSRP: Fusion, Optima, Sonata, Malibu, even G6 sedan, all can be had for less. I would (perhaps.... ) take this car over a Malibu( well, not problems there ... definitely a yes over this car) and Fusion and Sonata(most likely take Sebring over one of these)... but the Optima....it even has a better deal than the Sonata( their I-4 has a 4 speed auto, same for Sebring, too, but Optima has 5 speed, which makes it smoother, IMO, and better MPG). If there were some kind of 2K cash back, and a 1 K (after bargaining) off, and I could get the base model, sunroof, and auto, for say 18K, Yes. When you talk 19-21K... there are better options out there(and considering that Chrysler seems to have a "worse" warranty than even GM these days....). Rumors are of a PT Cruiser on the new Sebring platform(and GEMA engines?)... Maybe I'll wait to see if this is true. Overall, the review was fairly on target. |

In '95, when the Cloud cars were introduced, they marked a real step forward in domestic midsize design, so much so that I picked up a Stratus ES V6 and kept it for six enjoyable years, the longest I have ever held onto a car. It was a solid bit of design work from top to bottom, and really excelled in the styling department, especially when framed by other offerings of the time. While interior materials may have been slightly below some other entries, the package overall came off rather well, and though the straight-line performance was nothing to send telegrams about, the handling, for a FWD car, was truly remarkable, again, especially when framed by the competition. The true market price was a bargain as well. Unfortunately, from that first model year to this new intro, the Chrysler midize platform has never been given the attention it deserved or needed, whether upgrade or total revamp. This latest is a lost-in-the-crowd also-ran in a huge sea of mostly mundane options. Not a single stand-out aspect on which to hang a hat. As a former Mopar owner, and longtime fan, I have been soundly disappointed by what they have done with the sedan in this segment. Even GM fields a more appealing candidate, mediocre though I think it is. And for me to indicate any preference for the General is a telling sign indeed. Very disappointing. |
