I'm hearing that Cobb's latest Beta(1.03) maps are supposed to make decent power- especially if your car has other mods(CAI/SRI, DP, FMIC, etc.). If I was keeping my MS3 I'd fit a good CAI intake and buy an AP. However, the heap will soon be gone as it has required a new front strut and a new turbocharger in less than 27000 miles. This lack of reliability is unacceptable since I bought the sled to serve as my HPDE car...

How did you maintain turbo?

How did you maintain turbo?

I ran only Mobil 1 5W-30 and changed it every 5000 miles. If I drove the car hard I would let the car idle for a few minutes before switching off. FWIW, I've owned Ford and Volvo Turbos in the past and I never experienced a turbo related problem, even at mileages in excess of 100K. In contrast, check out any of the major Mazda forum and you will find one or more "smoking turbo" threads. My turbo failed in the most common fashion: after 3-4 minutes of idling the exhaust would start to emit a huge cloud of blue white smoke. In my case the dealer said that my car "smoked everyone out of the service bay". The replacement is supposedly improved, but no one at Mazda can tell me exactly what the "improvements" consist of. Needless to say, I'm less than impressed with the short term reliability of this car, and I'm not all that interested in finding out what else might go south.
