Article comments for Full Test: 2007 Mazdaspeed 3 - Mazda's 3 is a compact five-door or sedan that's been winning comparison tests and proving itself as a class leader since its introduction in 2003 as an '04 model — hardly a car capable of Evo or STI-like performance. (more)

does anyone know if it would still pass smog?

Probably, but if your state has a visual test it may still flunk.

any help would be awesome.

I'd simply buy a new exhaust. Well actually I wouldn't, since most of the dyno results I've seen show that the stock MS3 exhaust is pretty efficient. Cutting out the resonators won't affect the power in any significant way, but it probably will give your car that wonderful flatulent bumblebee tone that so many fanboys seem to be enamored with. Why not fit a Mazdaspeed CAI or a Cobb SRI? At least you'll have 20 or so horses to show for your effort.

New Mazdaspeed3 Colors by aviboy97

Hey everyone, there are new colors being offered on the Mazdaspeed3 for 2008 as a mid year change. Cosmic Blue and Sunlight Silver have been deleted, and they have added Crystal White Pearl and Metropolitan Gray (as seen on the 40th anv. Rotary RX-8).

I'm glad I grabbed a Cosmic Blue while I could. I am very unimpressed with the 2008 "Piano Black" interior trim; when I first heard about it I thought it would look nice, in the flesh it looks like a low-budget aftermarket kit- especially the "Mazdaspeed" sticker above the glovebox.
Now, if you could get a Crystal White MS3 with the black and red interior from the Australian MPS Extreme I'd buy one in a heartbeat. While I'm dreaming, I'd also like the Aussie PCM reflash that nets 281 horsepower and 313 lb-ft of torque...
Since neither possibility appears likely, I guess I'm going to "settle" for a Cobb SRI with an Amsoil dry filter...

I too am glad I snagged a Cosmic Blue one. It was the only available color I genuinely liked when I bought it. I thought about the red, but I've already owned one red police magnet. I also like the faux carbon fiber weave texture on the interior plastics. Piano black surfaces are fingerprint display devices. I guess it's difficult to improve on something they got darn near right on the first try.

Tell me about it; in the past 20 years I've collected two tickets and one warning. Each time I was driving a red car.

2008 Mazdaspeed3 Mid year enhancement by aviboy97

WOW....That's what I have to say about the mid year enhancements to the Mazdaspeed3. The GT has a new interior micro fiber cloth on the seat inserts, as well as the door trim, and really elegant piano black accents in the center console and driver / passenger doors. The gauge needles light up white. wow. very sharp. The car has a much nicer feel to it now. Great job Mazda......also, this was in the new color, Metropolitan Gray. Classy, very classy.

Well, to each his own; in my case I'm thankful that I didn't wait for the "enhancements".

What about 2009? by pegasuszz

Since the car sold well, are they bringing it back for 09? 10K units is a pretty short run for a popular, 23K car.

I bought a 2008.5 in Metropolitan Gray. I didn't want red, white or black. The gray is really nice and I have only heard good things. My only problem is keeping the car down to reasonable speeds.
