I just watched the Mazdaspeed 3 development, but once I got a chance to drive it, I bought it on the spot - red color, nav, and all. Too sweet a way to say g'bye to VW - and dreams of the overpriced and undersized Mini. Whoever thought that Japan would put a dent in my Eurocentric auto lust? This is the kid who always wanted a VW that would knock out a (street) Bimmer - and spent a lot of $$ on a '93 VW Cabriolet that was very satisfying in that respect.

So I know how much you can spend on a tuner car, and how much of a crapshoot it can be.

I didn't expect that looking into a practical alternative - the Mazda3, would lead to this - a tuner car, and from the factory - at a price over stock that would barely get you the first trinkets to do it yourself - much less the sorting out.

I thought the article was right on. I can echo all that about the shifter, weather mats, and all. But, I'm much more aware how this car responds than what I have been driving. She hasn't seen too much in the way of dirt roads, so now I wanna try that out, too. That's the way it is with this car, I'm learning to live a car like this like never before - even going to haul it out to the track.

Downers? gas mileage, premium requirement, heavy, and maybe a little too deluxe (for this kinda car)
Plusses? can really seat 4 people and/or haul stuff (a practical tuner car?), stereo/CD changer

I also want to do a shout out to the great guys at Key Mazda who put me into the car. I feel treated like royalty.

Im glad you are o.k.!! I posted the original blog on the clutch pedal issue, and want to report after driving the car now for a month there is no problem with the pedal. The Mazda dealer told me to remove the carpet mats and put down the all season mats instead, to clear up this issue. I just took out the all season mat, and all is PERFECT. This car is sweet and am very happy i bought it. Looking foward to installing the Mazda cold air intake and cat back when available.Edmunds was right in its report on this car, its a fine machine.

I dont know about the MS3 engine set up, but i know for a fact that the '06 cold air intake will fit on an '07 2.3 as i have already done this with my car. Ask the parts guy at your dealer if there is a special intake for the MS3.

Yes, it is different. Actually, I believe the CAI for the MS6 and MS3 are the same. But, I will have to double check that.

Anyone have any advice for upgrading the exhaust on my 07 speed 3? I don't want to void my warranty. Does mazdaspeed offer an upgraded exhaust? What kind of increase can I expect?
Thanks,
Keith

Yes they do. Contact your local Mazda dealer for pricing and availability.
