Article comments for First Drive: 2007 Acura TL Type-S - What's the best way to motivate a TL Type-S back to the top of the charts? Power, baby; and the high-revving 300-hp 3.5-liter V6 doing its best to propel the too-heavy, two- wheels-too-many-driven RL would seem like a good choice, and it is. (more)

tobini, I purchased my CBP/Taupe 2008 TL-S 6M in December and have about 5k miles now. I love the hell out of the car and have no regrets at all. If the silly engineers at Infiniti could have figured out what "overdrive" means it might have swayed to the G35. So far I love the performance of the TL-S and even smirk when I am at the fuel pump because it gets 1-2 MPG better than my old 98 maxima 5M. No small feat when you consider the TL-S Weighs 450 lbs more, has a .5 liter larger engine, and 100 hp more. It's the best of both worlds! Oh yeah, that back up camera rocks! I was able to back up to another car to about 2 inches from the bumper and still read the license number on the bumper mounted plate.

I like the TL-S but for the console, the G35 but or the lousy gas mileage. Last night I test drove a G8 - the car rocks. Would not let me take it too far, said they did not want too many miles on it. I thought that I would move on A G8 but then they said that they did not have a lease program?? That says to me that GM is not willing to bet on the residual values, so why should I take the resale risk by buying. This car had the best combination of ride and handling. Too bad.

I drove a TL-S again and did some seat adjusting. Much better this time. The car is fun. Next week I drive the G35 again, then I will decide which one by the end of the month. Leaning towards silver with taupe in the TL-S and the automatic - love sticks on the week end but not in daily commute traffic. The carbon bronze does a better job with the black chrome wheels. Thanks for the advice.

buying new car out of state by al1515

I am purchasing a brand new Acura from out-of-state because they no longer have this model in the trim that I like ('08 TL Type-S) where I live. I am planning on closing the deal with the Acura dealer by phone/fax/Fedex, then having the car delivered to me (i.e., I am buying the car without physically seeing or testing it out first).

Any idea if this is a risky proposition? What are the chances I will get a lemon?! This is a new car from what appears to be a legit Acura dealer. Wonder if any problems I might run into over the ensuing weeks/months can be fixed at a local Acura dealer and covered by the factory warranty, or would this turn into a blame game between manufacturer and dealer of origin, with me left holding the bag?

Thanks in advance for any input.
