I think it is voluntary. Here is the test results from the gov't site:
http://www.safercar.gov/portal/site/safercar/
Use the center drop down menu to get the Sequoia results.

Also, here is the test for the new Tundra with the Insurance Institute (the Sequoia was not tested):

OTD price 4x2 Limited by penaddict1

Hi guys,
I was quoted $45455 plus Tax, License & Doc fees and the OTD price $49400 for a 4x2 Limited with NV, EY, SR, PB, CT, RL, RF but the dealer back off just when I was about to go to sign paper and pick up the truck. They said that it's cash price only but asked me to apply for credit through the dealer web site to check to make sure I qualify for the 0% financing. They want $50700 for OTD price now. What do you think? I found it's hard to find a rear bench seat with every option like this one in Southern California. I am willing to pay $50K exactly out the door. Is it an Ok price? Or should I not even deal with this dealer.

That's what's referred to as a "bump" in the car biz. They bumped the price on you. Just imagine what other tricks they may try to pull if you accept their price. Unless you really must have that particular vehicle I would not do business with them. Try going to another Toyota dealer and they can dealer exchange the vehicle with the other dealer.

P.S. cash only is a fallacy in the car business. In the old days it used to be that a customer would say "I'm paying cash, how much can you take off the price?" That was when people could afford to pay cash for a car. Today most people get loans and the dealer tries to get you to finance with them if you have a loan with your own bank or credit union. Cash is cash to a dealer whether in the form of a check or Ben Franklins.

They simply don't have the facilities/funding to test every model vehicle for every test every year.

This was my post from a week ago on our purchase of an "08 Limited:

We live in the San Joaquin Valley in California and just purchased an '08 Sequoia Limited through the Costco auto purchase program. I feel that the Costco program worked great! The whole transaction was very smooth. Here was our price/info:

2008 Sequoia, Limited, 4X2, super white, graphite interior
20 inch wheels
Navigation w/JBL sound, 4 disc changer & backup camera
Rear DVD entertainment
Pwr. rear door with jam protection
Moon roof
Rear spoiler
Daytime running lights
Second row bench seat (we preferred this over captains for more seating)

MSRP: $51790
Purchase price: $46944

We were pre-approved at Tier 1 (the best rate/credit) through Toyota Financial and got 0% financing.

I agree with you that the seond row bench seat with these options are more difficult to find. I like the second row captains but we really wanted the eight passenger seating. We were fortunate that they found the one we wanted (plus DVD/Ent.) in the city where I commute to for work.

RUN....don't walk to another dealer. Enough said!

The options that you have are exactly what I want on my truck. Power Toyota in Irvine has one or can find me one with other colors but Pyrite Mica or Silver. I don't need the truck immediately and can wait for months but I just want to take advantage of the 0% financing for 60 months.

My 03' Sequoia will not start. It had sat for about a month waiting to turn back in from a lease when I discovered the battery was dead. I recharged the battery and now it will not start. The engine turns over great; however will not start. When the key is in the "on" position, the only things that funtion are the lights and the door open indiacter light works. When the key is pulled out the security light works. Windows, stereo, guages will not work. Any ideas?

Yes, the 0% at 60 months is a pretty big deal, especially on a vehicle at these prive levels. This was something that we also wanted to move on since these special offers can come and go pretty quickly. Toyota is clearly trying to add some revenue to the balance sheet by jumpstarting sales with the 0%. If it helps you, I checked our final purchase price with tax, license and registration was $51136.20. The Costco deal was $500 over invoice. All in all, we feel like a good price.

Good luck in finding your vehicle. We are really enjoying ours and are very pleased with it overall.

We just took a road trip with our new Sequoia and were amazed with the power and comfort. The Sequoia was the right vehicle for us!

Does anyone know of any articles that gives the top speed of the Sequoia? The odometer only goes up to 120 and although I didn't come anywhere near that I am sure that the top speed would be greater than 120. I am just curious what the Sequoia is capable of attaining.
