Follow-Up Test: 2007 Mazda MX-5 Miata PRHT - After putting a quick thousand miles on a 2007 Mazda MX-5 Power Retractable Hardtop (PRHT), we think the company's estimate of a 20-30-percent take rate on this option is going to prove low (more)

In the 14 seconds it takes to retract, and s2000 has retracted its top and is reaching 100MPH! The Miata maybe cute and "fun" but its hardly a sports car. If you buy the stripper, yes, its cheap (slow) fun, if you buy the top version the price is dangerously close to real performance alternatives. As to the "dated" design that just makes me laugh, first, the design is very similar (both are derivative of british roadsters) and as far as I can tell from the reaction to my S is that it gets more wows and ahhhs than if Maria Sharapova happened to be strolling down the street butt naked. It gets so much attention that its embarassing, particularly since I bought it for its performance not its looks ROLF! As to styling I wonder why the Miata copied the s2000 rims???? Maybe it is because they want it to "look" like a real sports convertible LOL.

Your statement about the power hard top taking up the "entire cargo area when lowered" shows your complete lack of knowledge. The power hard top takes up NO room in the trunk. NONE! Also, the MX-5 has 10 spoke wheels, and the S2000 has 5-spoke. The MX-5 has copied nothing from the S2000, since the S2000 has done nothing the MX-5 has not, except for having a stock 237hp engine. The MX-5 has nothing to be envious of from the S2000 either. The S2000 does not sell, it's dead product. The MX-5 is a true sports car, it happens to have it's own racing circuit. the "MX-5 Cup". See link below. http://www.mx-5cup.com/ You know, I get it. You love you S2000. Great. Wonderful. Fantastic. Good for you. However, coming into a MX-5 thread and bashing the car with no knowledge of it just shows immaturity and overall lack of respect. You are just wasting your breath here.

In the 14 seconds it takes to retract In the hard top equipped S2000 you would not even be half way done. Apples to apples. Compare soft top to soft top. Hard top to hard top. The Miata's hard top takes 14 seconds, and I bet the S2000 takes 14 minutes, perhaps less if you have a 2nd person to help you remove it. I've already shown real-world prices, a soft top Miata tops off around $26 grand, not even in the same price category. Why are you in a Miata thread? Buyer's remorse? Looking to trade for something with more creature comforts? Or perhaps you want a hard top that doesn't have to be removed manually, with tools and 2 people to do the job? Why are you here? If you were truly 100% content with your S2000 you should not be in this thread. Actions speak louder than words. Admit it, you're shopping for a Miata. |

I don't think you will find a find MX-5 owner disagree with you there. I have a customer that owns a 2005 Mazdaspeed MX-5, and he upgraded the turbo and intercooler and is pumping out 265WHP. That is one mean MX-5.

When shopping for cars I looked at the S-2000, although the power was a bit better I wasn't happy with the cheap interior(I know the MX-5 is cheap also) but It seemed cheaper to me.. the options on the MX-5 were overall much better, the ride was a lot rougher, louder and gas mileage was much worse on the Honda, and it was 7K more than my loaded PRHT, I thought Mazda had better color choices, and I found no reason to go to the S-2000 site and go bashing them |
