Follow-Up Test: 2007 Mazda MX-5 Miata PRHT - After putting a quick thousand miles on a 2007 Mazda MX-5 Power Retractable Hardtop (PRHT), we think the company's estimate of a 20-30-percent take rate on this option is going to prove low (more)

07 True Red GT PRHT, with pp2 and sp. Love the car. Also bought it via the "S" plan price, which is basically invoice.

Pushed Back Production Date by brake4me1

I found out from my dealer that the MX-5 I ordered in late September and thought was going into production in November 06, is now pushed back to January 19th. I have not heard or read of any manufacturing delays at Mazda so I was just curious if anyone on the board has also experienced shipment delays in their orders. I'm now assuming I won't get by new toy until April or early May.

I'm not sure at this point if I should blame Mazda for delaying my shipment 3 plus months or my dealer since they placed the order. In any case I'm going to be contacting my dealer on a routine basis starting in February to get an up to date report on where thing stand. Seven months to wait for a new MX-5 is a stretch.

actually there are several names... S plan, X plan... my company is a vendor for ford, so ford gives us a pricing plan that equates (in our case) to invoice.

Port of New Jersey - My car sits and waits by brake4me1

Anyone on the board (possibly pipefitter) know why it takes so long for new Mazdas (or any cars) to clear the New Jersey port and be delivered. My MX-5 arrived March 3rd and my Maryland dealer says he has no idea when the car will be dropped off at dealership.

Furthermore dealer says he has no way of checking the status of the new MX-5, when the hauling company might load/transport and that the car could come any day or another week plus.

I'm just curious why a new car could sit for 3 or 4 weeks when the buyer and I assume dealer want it ASAP? I did get verification that floor mats and owners manual were added to car (at N.J.) but nothing more. Seems to me my dealer should be doing more to free up car and give me a solid date of arrival. Dealer acts like he is at the mercy of the port and transport company.

I am also an S plan buyer, but my local dealership is reluctant to get me a retractable roof model under the plan. They're more than willing to sell a convertible at S plan pricing, but I definitely want the PRHT. I noticed that the two buyers on this thread that bought under the S plan are in Texas and Maryland. I'm in FL. Any suggestions?

This is the site for the person in charge of mazda's S-plan. I would contact her to find out who in your area honors this plan. I did this some years ago when the sales manager of one mazda dealer told me he didn't have to offer this plan. When I contacted her she didn't like that and sent a message to the sales manager. As a result of that--the dealer then offered me the car at the s-plan price. This was some time ago--so the person in charge at mazda may have changed. But give it a try.

Its because he is.

OTOH, he can contact his mazda dist rep to see if they can expedite the shipping...remember, the dealer doesn't make any money until you pay for the car and drive away so they want it to arrive as badly as you do.

Remember, selling at S-Plan is up to the dealers discression. There is decent supply of rag top MX-5's, so, S-Plan sales are more common.

The PRHT's are few. Very few. I am sold out for the year. They have been very popular, and dealers did not get allocated very many. I sold all of mine at MSRP, with no questions asked by the customers. A dealer will not sell a PRHT for S-Plan, when they know they will get someone to pay MSRP. Really, it comes down to supply and demand. The demand far out weighs the supply.

Last year, the rag top MX-5's sold at MSRP for the majority of the year, due to supply vs demand.
