I am looking at both the 2006 Nissan Xterra and the 2005 or 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee with either a v6 or v8 (not the Hemi) and am wondering which one is the better vehicle. I am a young professional (28) and am looking for style and comfort, but also a young professional/hip look. I know the gas milage on each is terrible. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help.

I've made 2 long distance trips and got 21 and 22mpg without the engine even broken in yet, and 15mpg in mixed city/hwy. I wouldn't call that terrible, especially for its weight, not great, but compare the specs to the lighter less powerful Jeep Liberty and it's only off by 1mpg!!! You touch the gas and this thing wants to take off, the seat has excellent positioning and the room inside is more than adequate, and I'm 6'3". The ride is a bit rough, when you hit bumps you feel it, the back end can kick up and slide off, but it's not so bad that you couldn't use it for everyday driving, you get used to it after awhile, not a big deal to me. Get the Jeep if ride comfort is what your looking for, get the Xterra if it's anything else. |

Gas Mileage 6. Ground clearance 7. Approach/departure angle 8. Angle over approach It also has 1. Part time 4WD instead of full time w/ shift on the fly (a nice option) 2. Better suspension 3. WAY nicer interior (laredo GC)

Replying to: twitch97 (Sep 09, 2006 2:51 pm) The Xterra does not have better "total legroom" as the front seating dimensions aren't as big as the JGC. And yes the Xterra has higher ground clearance(which explains it's buckboard ride) and somewhat better approach angles but not better departure and breakover angles. But the Jeep is still tops with "3" different 4WD systems, something the Nissan can only dream of. And with QD, the Jeep is unstopable on anything this side of a Hummer H1. The ancient part time 4WD is not better than the any of the 4WD systems that Jeep offers. Big tires don't make a truck the king off-roading. And since when has any JGC had a worse interior than the spartan plastic the Xterra calls an interior? And the 4.7L V8 tows 6600 pounds, and is very comparible to the Xterra in price. Opt for the Hemi, and this thing is rocket. The Nissan doesn't offer an optional engine. But it's spiffy V6 will suffice. |
