I am having the same problem. The transmission governor pressure solenoid and governor pressure sensor are on the bottom of the valve body just inside the transmission pan. I plan on replacing both of these because you can't be sure which one is bad and I don't want to have to do the job twice. It is a simple job; drop the tranny pan, replace components, replace pan, refill fluid. This link may help you: link title It deals with a diesel but it's all the same.

I have a 95 ram 3500 2wd diesel, the trans is slipping in and out of gear only when parked for about an hour or more on level ground especially when cold, but it disappears after a mile or two. HOWEVER; if i park in my driveway which is at a slight incline it never slips, even when it's cold. Anyway i'm stuck to trying to find an incline everytime i have to leave the truck for more than an hour. My truck has 130,000 miles, please help, do i need a new trans. thanks carnut17

Thanks pegleg I took it to a transmission shop that offered a free check (the best kind) and he told me what I already knew except he has had a few problems with wiring being damaged from the computer to the transmission. I am going to take it to him next Friday and he is going to check it for me. I will let you know what happens.

I have a '96 ram 3500 pickup with a Cummins diesel and 4 speed auto trans. My problem is that the trans suddenly won't shift into overdrive. One day it shifted fine the next day it wouldn't shift into 4th gear. The fluid is full and has about 5000 miles since the last fluid and filter change. I checked all fuses and relays they seem fine. I also checked electrical connections to the trans, all are still connected and corrosion free. Any ideas on what the problem might be? Thanks for your help. Tom

I'm getting a code P1756 (Transmission control pressure not equal to target) any thoughts as to what that could be?

You indicate that the transmission fluid was changed 5000 miles ago. What type of transmission fluid was installed? How many miles on this transmission?

Dusty

Hello ddually, I had the exact same trans. problem on my 95 ram 3500 diesel. It turned out to be the throttle position sensor. I am almost 90% sure this is the problem. I think the 10% might be the wrong trans. fluid but i doubt it. Let me know the outcome.

I have a 2006 Ram 1500 Quad cab with the 5.7 multi displacement Hemi. On cold and cool mornings or evenings when I start it and place it in gear the transmission will sit there from anywhere of 3 to 6 seconds before it to engages. It's still under warranty and the dealer tells me this is normal. Has anyone else heard of this?

my 94 4x4 1500 318 auto did some Very weird stuff* tonite.
i went and replaced the egr valve at advance..when i went to leave, the truck literally wouldnt go into ANY gear..i tried revving, etc,no dice..when i shut the truck Off tho,and restarted,it went into 1st....i tried to drive it home, but it was refusing to go from 1st to any other gear....i finally figured out that if i shut the truck off, then restarted it and put it in gear,it would pull off to about 21mph...at which point it would flash and no gears....i made it to about 2 miles away, and this time when i did the restart, the truck pulled off Strong and All 3 gears..PERFECT..so,like,wtf?...then,i get home and revved it,its fine..took it out of gear, put it back in,and im back where i started,no gears..just exactly what in the hell is wrong with this thing?
any help would be appreciated.
Edit:btw, the guy at advance did a scan,Before this happened,With the truck running..
i asked him if it should be off first and he said no?
the truck Never did this until he did that scan,im wondering if he messed it up somehow,by testing it running?
the codes came up as code 31 and some weird code hex4??
again, thanx in advance for any help..Brokedown in New York.

yes, because the trans gets no fluid until you either put it in gear or Neutral..the front pump doesnt activate in Park.best thing to do is to put it in neutral Before you put it in any gear..let it flow some fluid Then put it in gear....there is a way to redo the trans with a special valve to cure this/no fluid pumping in park/,but it is a rather expensive fix.G/L,rob
