| I am looking at a mid 90's long w/b, ex-cab, long bed,4x4 for a friend. The tranny shifts fine and apparently the od works just fine. The problem is this: hot or cold, when you stop at a light or intersection or stop sign, the tranny acts like it is in neutral or almost as if the stall speed has been miraculously been moved up to about 3000 or 3500 RPM! This is very hard on the drivetrain and this truck is depended on everyday for his business. Fluid/filter were changed recently and I'm not sure of the dex/merc was used. Either way, this had no effect on the problem. This problem started intermittent and is getting more consistent with time. Also, if the trans is shifted into park and back to drive, tranny works fine....Wierd! Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance. | |

Replying to: nastified (May 20, 2009 7:00 pm) On my 96 3500, the batteries called it quits at almost exact 3 year intervals. They've been better on my 05 3500, but I don't drive nearly as much as I used to, so the batteries aren't getting the workout they did prior to April of last year when I changed jobs. kcram - Pickups/Wagons Host

Sure way to check if this is the problem is disconnect the batteries if the problem goes away for awhile then returns this may fix it: http://www.kentsoil.com/dodgebug1.htm In my case after adding the noise filter the problem never returned, and that was 175,000+ miles ago......... 1998 1/2 Dodge Ram 24V 260K+

I have a 2002 ram 1500 with 87k miles. I started noticing thetranny taking longer to shift from a dead stop (3000 rpms) and higher unless I take my foot off the gas pedal, then it shifts. No engine codes or any other tranny problems. I haven't had the tranny serviced. Just noticed the shifting problem last week.

I have a 1997 ram 2500 extended cab with just under 100k, I use it for towing my boat and or camp trailer. When the truck sets for a couple of days the transmission will not go into gear right away, either forward or reverse. If I let it sit and idle in neutral for five minutes, it will go into gear, sometimes with a light thud and after that it shifts fine. I have no codes showing up for the transmission, it seems that the oil is draining out of the valve body and it takes a while to build up pressure again. Before the warrenty was up, this problem started showing up after it sat for a week, I took it to my dodge dealer and their mechanic said this was normal and I was just to let it idle in neutral for a minute or two to give it time for the torque converter to refill as it drains down when it is not run for a while. Well this worked until just recently and now it five minutes or more. Will a shift kit solve the bleed down problem, or do I need to rebuild the transmission? Has anyone else had this problem and what was done to fix it? |
