I wish I could tell you what was wrong with my car - they still don't know. I took the car to two dealerships. The first dealership said they had no idea what was wrong and everything looked fine. Since I paid for a rental I picked up my car, the second dealership gave me a "rental" but then I was charged over $300 to replace a battery and change three light bulbs on my car. So I am not sure if i needed a battery or not - but I live in AZ so thought it couldn't hurt.. anyway.. it hasn't happened since.. but I know it will.. I just pray my kids aren't in the car. Good luck!

Something very similar just happened to me while driving a 2010 Jetta LTD. The check battery light came on for a few seconds, then the car stalled.

I called the service dept right away (the car is still under warranty) and was told just to restart the car. They said not to bring it in for service unless it happens again. But there was no reason whatsoever for the car to stall. I was just fortunate that I was in a parking lot when it happened. Is there a way to report this problem to Volkswagen corporate, rather than the local service department? I checked the NHTSA website, but couldn't find anything there. But we should find a way of submitting these problems in the aggregate to both VW and the NHTSA.

Hi Chris.. You can actually call the Volkswagen Customer Care department at 1-800-822-8987 and report the issue. and actually my car stalled again on Friday. Someone accidently hit my car - one tiny scratch - waited for the police with the car running as I live in AZ it took about one hour for the police to investigate as the other drive was impaired. When the officer said I could go- I started to drive away and my car stalled. I managed to make it to the scary mall in Phoenix and waited it out for an hour and half - when I came back to the car it started up without issue and has not stalled since. I am thinking that the issues are due to climate as I live in Arizona, but I am not sure. I didn't take it back to the dealer because last time it costed $300 and the same issue is still occuring. Please let me know if anyone finds anything about how to fix the issue. Thanks!

this same problem started just after the trans and timing chain was replaced. but the error code reads different censors than was worked on. this happens when the engine gets HOT, I live where it gets to the 3 digits. tried to cool down the engine by spraying water on the radiator, turned off the AC, the car will start but as soon as it is put into drive it starts to stall and smell like gasoline was poured everywhere, but no gas, just fumes. we have not local VW dealer here so the one with the most experience suggested taking it to the dealer and having the computer replaced. the car is just on big lets say LEMON on here. been costly ever since my daughter bought it. NEVER AGAIN VOLKSWAGEN it might just call it a datsun

I have the same problem with hesitation after start. Just started the car in the garage and it ran very rough for a few minutes. Started about a month ago and I took it to a dealer in Mt. Could not find a problem - yada yada yada.

So are you still having issues?

YES, the problem never went away and dealer did virtually NOTHING to find it, even after I left the car with them for 2 weeks so they could drive it repeatedly. My hesitation is brief, just a "burp" and then nothing else, no running rough-- AND my daughter's same car does the same thing. Finally, after 30,000 mile service, I took service mgr for a ride and it actually hesitated with him in the car. They could no longer deny the problem!! A week later, the message was "VW has acknowledged there is a problem but there is no fix, they are working on it and it may be a while." Really?? 97,000 reports of this to the NTSB and they are only no admitting to a problem, and no fix??

I was so ticked off, I traded in the car on a 2012. I told the finance manager right then and there, if this 2012 TDI does it too, it is all over! VW is going to have to step up - this is their problem, not my problem. Well, trade in was a bad move, should have turned it in as a LEMON and gotten a new car pretty much for free. Because, guess what?? The 2012 does it too!! I could scream. As of my 5000 mile checkup, I have put the finance manager on notice and have given them 3 weeks to get back to me as to what VW is going to do about it. Time is up. I am on this later today.

Good luck, VW is stonewalling, just like Toyota did with those surging problems.

From what I have read, your hesitation is apparently a transmission issue. My problem is most like ly the high pressure fuel pump, a $2500 repair nobody wants to perform unless absolutly forced to.

Dear Jettaqueen:

What was the ultimate cause of your problem in your post of 7/11/11? I bought a used 2007 Jetta for my daughter last summer and she had some problems with it - had a lot of warranty/recall work performed, including replacement of the coils (I think). Recently, my other daughter drove it to the door of her apartment at college and it died and I can't get it to start at all. The gas gauge said past empty so I added gas just to make sure she hadn't run it to empty. The battery only clicked, as it does when the battery is about dead. I jumped it and the starter cranked energetically but endlessly without the engine ever kicking over - even a single surge. It's as if it has either no fuel or no air, or some other mixture problem. What did you learn from your bad experience from 2011?

After spending a morning online looking into what's "possibly" wrong with my car and reading about this dang First Extended Warranty company, I feel sick. I have the 2010 VW Jetta TDI Sportwagen. Last week while driving back from lunch at work the glow plug light came on with the warning "Service Immediately." I've always had my car serviced by VW so I didn't think much of it. I called the service center they said to get it up to them but if I turned the car off and back on again and there was no light present it would be okay to drive - otherwise have it towed.
When I turned it back on, not only did the glow plug light come back on but so did the "check engine" light. We had it towed to the dealership where they looked at it and told me there had been a "failure in the fuel pump which caused." (& I'm quoting here) "shards of metal to spray throughout my engine." Sounds great, right?
I bought this car brand new in 2010 with only 30 miles on it. I had noticed a bit of a hiccup every once in a while which reminded me of how it felt when my old car would have bad gas or something in it - like it just wasn't getting the right fuel for a second and then it would go again. Aside from that hesitation, we never stalled, never had trouble starting in the morning, never had any signs that anything was wrong and then one day...BOOM! You have shards of metal in your engine.
I'm glad we purchased the extended warranty but after waiting over a week (I'm trying to be patient because it's the week before and now Christmas) to hear from them to see if my issue is "covered" I started reading reviews of the company and it's made me nauseated. I came on here to see if anyone had any sort of similar problem to mine and your thread was the closest I could find when it came to mentioning the fuel pump.
I'll keep you updated as I learn more.

#252 of 266 2012 Jetta SE Automatic having hesitation when starting. by mandamo85

Jan 08, 2013 (2:36 pm)

I leased in April of 2012 a new Jetta SE automatic 2012. Within 2 months the check engine light came on. It comes on and goes off now and again. Dealer said don't worry about it as long as it goes out, lol, okay? I can count at least 10 times I had to turn the key twice and hold for longer than normal to get my car to start meanwhile the battery or check engine light comes on then a few days later goes away. Again, don't worry about it.
8 months into this lease this morning my car hesitated to start then idled so low that I tought the car was going to stall. The stalling sound was making the car move like it was bucking but never stalling out. Check engine light came on. Was bucking down the road luckily to make it to work that is only a mile away.
Called the dealer, it's going there tonight and I told them I don't want it back until it's fixed. I will be calling VW customer care tonight to list these problems. I'm so frustraited, a 3 year lease is too long for this piece of crap. They don't make VW like they used to. JUNK!
