So I picked up my car last night (as mentioned above). Everything was great, car started great even though it was -2 below out. Car started great this morning even though it was -9 below this morning. Less than a mile down the road on my way to work the check engine light came on. It's going back to the dealer a third time tomorrow. AGAIN, I will keep you posted.

So my car went back to the dealer last Friday morning. They called me that afternoon and said the cam tensioner gasket/seal needed to be replaced and that they would order the part but because they had to pull the header off it wouldn't be ready before Tuesday the 29th. I got a call today that they pulled the header ready to change the gasket and saw their was more than normal condensation in or on the pcv valve and that it needed to be replaced as it was not working and was a manufacturer defect. AGAIN, they would order the part and call me when the car was ready. Can you say
?

In hopes this helps others who have had this sort of problem: My 2010 Jetta TDI manual has been hesitating since I purchased it new. It was rare at first and never missed when the VW mechanic drove it. As the 3 year warranty ran out the hesitation had become frequent. After leaving it with VW for a week, a "code" occasionally advised replacing #3 fuel injector for code P020C. Haven't had any hesitation in 150 miles driven since it was replaced. VW didn't charge me for this as it was covered under the 5 yr engine and drive train warranty. I am very pleased with VW and my car.
#261 of 266 2002 Jetta Stall - need help identifying issue

I have a 2002 Jetta 11 years old now. No major issues other than your wear and tear.
So today I am at the gas station filling up. I start the car and it stalls on me. The EPC light, battery light, and I think engine light all turned on.
Called AAA, they didn't know what was wrong with it so they called in their tow service. Car sat there for over an hour while waiting for the tow truck to come. tower comes tries to start the car and same thing. But then while he's loading it on the truck, he reaches down in front of the car, bangs something w/ his tool, starts the car and it works now, it actually starts and I drove it home which was only 1-2 miles away. He tells me bad fuel pump.
Now car is here at home but I am afraid it may not start to get it to the shop tomorrow.
But based on what i wrote, do you experts think it is only fuel pump problem? it was weird that right after I filled up the car this occurred, never occurred before too. and the whole EPC / BATTERY LIGHT coming on I thought the engine had had it.
Thanks.

I have a 99 VW Jetta Wolfsburg Edition. Ever since I have had it it's always had issues starting, but nothing more than that. After 6 months of having it it shut off randomly and did not want to start so we replaced the starter, it still had troubles starting up but was fine. Now this past two months it has started shutting off on me while driving, NUMEROUS times now. It doesn't seem to have a pattern, just at random, a few times it felt like a skipping sensation before it died, but not every time. We have had the battery replaced, spark plugs, fuel pump replaced, replaced distributor, temp sensor, and now recently the crank sensor. Hoping the crank sensor would do the trick, but it once again shut off on me while driving. Every time it shuts off the lights on the dash all come up then go away once I turn the key off. It takes a few minutes to maybe an hour or so to get it to start back up. Other than now looking to see if it's throttle body, does anyone have input on what could be going on?

It could be two things:
1. throttle body is bad
2. engine management system is bad (it is the computer in your car that runs all of the different fuel injection components)
Best bet is to get a mechanic to drive the car with a scanner connected to it to see what codes pop up.

Thanks for the reply. I had the mechanic do that exactly, all the codes were reading perfectly fine. We drove it around for a little bit before he finally got it to die down on him. When it did, he looked at the scanner and it said it could not connect. He suggested throttle body and or possibly the computer. Hopefully its one of the two.

I am having the same issue. I am certain it is the fuel filter, because the engine light is not on and if I use gas additives it kinda helps. Let me know what you did to your car to get it fixed!

Mine never got fixed! I gave up and traded the 2010 in and the 2012 does it too! I am totally disappointed in VW. Story now is it is a "software issue" and that the NTSB has to bless the update before I can get the car to quit stalling in intersections... been about a year not, waiting... not happy!
