Forget Roush - Buy a Lightning by mphilpott

My '99 SVT Lightning cost over $20,000 less than this Roush, is every bit as comfortable and good looking and will smoke this over-priced poser in every possible way: 0-60, 1/4 mile time and speed, top speed and even miles per gallon. And I mean smoke it BAD!

My advice? Instead of sinking 56 large into this sad effort, find a nice used Lightning, buy a brand new Mustang GT with the difference and use the $5K left over to buy a year's worth of $3 gas for both vehicles.

The little anecdote at the end of the road test about smoking the Mercedes SL was really fun and interesting to read! I would totally have done the same thing.

Hello,
I am a 2006 Roush F150 owner who has a charged staqe 1. I think that Jack Roush has done us all a good deed by making street legal products. I agree it is not the fastest, but it is a Harley Davidson of performance Trucks. It's more to owning a Roush Vehicle than speed! (ISN'T the max speed limit in the state's 80-85 mph Depending on your Location!?)
Anyway, There is faster Trucks true, but the true enthusiast preferred Jack Roush vehicles!!! Didn't Jack Roush used to work for Ford as a Engineer?!(Then came the SVT Lightning!)
Be safe and drive Responsibly,
Albert

As you all know. Thunder follows lightning. That is most likely why Saleen nicknamed thier super truck "Thunder". If There was a New Lightning availlable I would have at least looked into it. But There wasnt. I also wanted four wheel drive, That was availlable in the Roush lineup. The ability to Tow my Boat up some steep sandy landings was also neccesssary. Try that with a lightning in 2wd. Or in your mothers Toyota. There will always be someone faster, we could compare horsepower and tourque numbers. There are modifications that can be done to improve the dragstrip numbers. Its all about what works for you. In my case. I bought a nicely outfitted xlt model 4x4 and added all the Roush Performance mods myself when I could afford it. At a great savings also. I love my truck , It gets plenty of compliments, performs well fof a 5000 lb. truck. Untill I tell people, they have no idea I didnt purchase it complete. Roush did a nice job wiyh thier performance packages , and ability to sell the public aftermarket add ons.
