The ForTwo is a great car. The principles of design are obviously derived from European issues. The Smart would work in the USA if people could get over the "Bigger is better" fixation. Think about it. You drive your big SUV getting 14 mpg. and you are the only one in it 90% of the time.... Doesn't make much sense does it? Why not embrace an alternative that could save money at the pump, and help the environment (Believe me I'm not a tree hugger, but why not do something, eh) This car is great as a primary or secondary car. Oh and great for new drivers as it is very safe. (If you haven't watched the video in the article, watch it, any fears will be allayed) Finally, did you ever think you could buy Mercedes Benz engineering for $15 grand, brand new??? Well, you soon will be able to. Take from a Brit living in the land of SUV's Buffet's and fat arses (You know who you are), you wont regret it, even your voluminous posteriors will fit. One parting thought, the money you will save on fuel, you can make an extra trip to the McCholesterol Buffet of fat, and work on that 6th chin.

| My Smart Car is Possessed by Christina. It is BROKEN, and I am so sad. I loved my Smart Car. It does crazy things, like wipers wiping and flashers flashing until they decide not to an hour later. It decides not to lock and keeps the interior light on until I have to disconnect it. It spins its engine and goes neither forward nor backward nor will find any gear, until it decides hours or minutes later to go into gear and move. I loved my Smart, and it made me happy just to drive, until it became possessed. (Anyone else buy a possessed Zap imported Smart Car???) | |

of the Smart car, but I am with some other folks here in thinking that for such a small-engined, lightweight car, this thing should have really startling fuel economy, like well above the Prius. I like that it is stylish when all the other subcompact cars (Mini excepted) are Dullsville, and also that it uses nicer interior materials than the others too, not to mention the cool glass roof. Smart won't get my bucks unless they make a manual shift version. If they give it that and fuel economy high enough to provide bragging rights, I would part with $15-17K to get one. |

There are a lot more reasons than just gas mileage to own a small car. And it's premature to bash a vehicle for its gas mileage before real figures are released. I'm cool with 40-50 MPG. Why do people go to sites where they're not interested in the cars they criticize? |

Boss since he does a lot of city and country driving. We have debated if we can carry two smart fortwos' from location to location. Together we have determined that with our trailer for hauling furniture and supplies, along with an empty bed on our fleet of Silverados, we can carry two safely. With a little doing we can put two on the trailer and one in the bed. By adding the fuel mileage of the four vehicles and dividing by four we have increased the average fuel mileage and savings. We have found one draw back, storage space. The amount of tools and equipment/supplies we must all carry to accomplish our daily duties will not fit in the three smart fortwos. As a service fleet we have decided to junk the smart reattach our service shells and use the clown cars as performance cones on the service vehicle city driving obstacle course. One more question where do we put the family in this car?
