The algorithm for the blend of ICE vs. electric must be pretty elaborate. When I pushed Start this morning (temp in the high 40's in my area), the ICE kicked in, but then shut off about 15 seconds later, before I pulled out of my garage. Could the A/C system's call for heat have influenced it? Not sure.
During my commute this morning, 20mph seemed to be the threshold for ICE, although accelerator pressure and road incline definitely bring it lower.
My understanding on premium vs. regular gas is that it's a performance issue, with possibly some deterioration in economy. That said, I was dumping the cheap stuff into my BMW in the last several weeks and I didn't notice a bit of difference (at least during leasurely commuting).

bmwconvert, how do you like the adaptive variable suspension (AVS)in your car? how does it compare to your BMW in daily commute?

The car handles very well in normal mode, although I found it too stiff and jumpy on the rough roads I'm stuck commuting on. Lexus has done a great job designing the car to have a comfortable yet tight ride on the very low profile tires it comes with.
I had a 530i with the standard wheels/tires that provided a good balance of handling vs. comfort on rough roads. The 450h is probably more comparable to a 540i or M5 in feel. It certainly is in torque/acceleration.

Has anyone read the User's Manual for the 450h, are there any special break-in procedures for the hybrid drive train?
