I want to swap out my stereo so that I can get Sirius

I have been a Sirius subscriber for the last 3+ years but when I purchased my new '08 Camry SE, I didn't purchase the upgraded JBL stereo with the CD changer/bluetooth, sat. ready/etc. Does anyone know for sure if I can swap out the basic stereo for the upgraded stereo using the same wiring, connectors, etc.? If nobody knows this, can somebody direct me to where I can find the wiring diagrams online? Thanks!

I too bought an 08 Camry SE. I did get the upgraded stereo w/bluetooth and all, but still have not been able to get my sirius installed. After alot of work I have finally gotten the part #'s and someone that will be able to install it. The total will be $475.00 (the equipment alone is $300.00). I am told that if you do not have the upgraded stereo, you can't use the sirius through the head unit. I was told you have to have the satellite botton on your stereo to make this work. Asking around, I was told the only way to make it in dash and compatible (through the head unit) is to purchase an after market upgrade that will run about $1000.00 and then the price of the Sirius unit (installed and after market should run around 475.00). I was told that there is additional wiring needed if you are going to make the upgraded stereo work..also they said that you need to make sure you get a "fit kit". I know this probably isn't too much help, but Good Luck and Best Wishes on that Camry. I love mine!!!

I appreciate the info - it's not what I want to hear but I suspect that it's the way things are. As much as I miss having Sirius, I won't pay nearly $1500 for the pleasure. Oh well, I guess it's time to break out the CDs again! Good luck with getting yours installed...

mrdoon,
First of all, I would MAKE SURE that disabling the stereo unit doesn't affect the vehicle's warranty whatsoever. That is the most important thing to check out.
Second, you should be able to use all of the same wiring if you installed an aftermarket cd player, dvd player, nav system, etc. There are a lot of different wiring harnesses and such.
You may need some special modifications or moldings on the dash. The factory head unit is rather large, and most aftermarket parts are not that large so some custome work may be required.
Make sure you don't void the vehicle's warranty by doing anything yourself.
Good luck!

I'm having this same problem with my 2008 Camry. I've only had the car for 7 days so I'm quite frustrated. If you happen to find out what the problem is and if it's something easily fixed please let me know.

I am sure any dealer would be able to fix it under warranty.

2007 Camry MP3 question

I just bought a 2007 Camry without a owners manual. I see the radio has a MP3 logo on it. How do I get the MP3's played? Do I use an iPod, a CD with MP3's or those radio accessories?
What is the way to play MP3's?

- you can put in a cd, which has folders of mp3 files in them. They will play after pressing the cd button on the radio. You can also play regular old audio cd's as well, but a cd doesn't hold many songs that way.
- you can have mp3s on an ipod, and connect the ipod with a cable to the plug that is in the back of the trapped door storage area underneath the radio. There is a 12v outlet and aux-input plug in there. They will play after pressing the aux button on the radio.

I make "data" or "mp3" cd's and play them in the cd player. Depending on the size of the songs, I can generally fit 120-140 songs on a cd. I've been listening to the same few cd's for months now.
