#81 of 131 2007 Camry SE V6 HID Kit by cp44

Jan 12, 2007 (10:28 am)

I just need to know what type of kit I should buy. I know Mccolluchs and Phillips are a good brand. The thing is that I have the daytime running lights and auto on feature for my headlights. I want to know if I install a HID kit that runs off the battery and uses a relay...will I lose that auto on feature?

No, auto on will be retained.... just make sure you buy a good kit, and keep in mind it will be an illegal mod. If you want the best look and performance, consider spending the extra and use a retrofit of projectors such as Acura's TSX/TL projectors. BTW, make sure the squirrel finders are covered up. and stick with brands like Phillips' bulbs, Denso's ballasts....

Only applicable if you go the cheaper route and but a plug and play HID kit, using the OEM projectors. They have a couple of flaps that allow light to reflect upwards, for the purposes of illuminating street signs,etc... hence "squirrel finders", but if not closed up during a HID conversion, will cause significant glare to oncoming motorists. This in turn, if not causing some accidents or pissing other drivers off, will get the attention of passing police, with the increased likelihood of getting a ticket for illegal HID lights. Hope this helps.

I was planning to get the kit that uses the OEM power source and not have it run straight off the battery. I am going to use it through my OEM projectors.

Welcome to Edmunds! One rule, don't expect an answer from someone's who's posted almost 2 years ago; they may be long gone!

Lasted 9 days, although he could still be a "lurker" (just looking, not posting).

I would like to do the same. I've noticed that many of the newer conversion kits are less than $200, or $300 at most. Have you done this yet? Where are those squirrel finders and how do I get to them? Fact is, in Michigan at least, people drive with such terrible lights, I don't know if the police will be much bothered by the lights. Any one else here with a conversion?
