Does anyone have any information on the differences between the 2007 Avalon Ltd and the 2006 Avalon Ltd? I reviewed Edmunds.com, as well as the 2007 and 2006 brochures. They were identical. I have spoken to Toyota sales people and they said there were none that they knew of. Of course that could be because they are trying to move the 2006. I even eyeballed a 2007 and it looked identical. Does anyone know why I should buy a 2007 when I can get a better bargain on the 2006 (other than better bargain also = depreciation)?

I have bought many end of the year cars and you get best deals this way...2006 vs 2007 onlt tire pressure monitor on it. Go for the 2006 and get below invoice pricing I would think about 30K for Load Limited should be good.

Thanks for the reply. I think I will look for a 2006 with Navigation, Vehicle Stability Control and Dynamic Laser Cruise.

Another question. Have the issues with the transmission been resolved on the 2006 and 2007? I have read the other posts and it's discussed quite a bit. Theories are Drive By Wire, foot placement on the pedal and software that learns/interprets the driver's driving habits and intent. Haven't heard about any other problems.

Some have the "quirky" tranny syndrome and Toyota says its normal operation. Before you buy the Avalon with the Nav System--CHECK IT OUT---DO A TEST---read the Navigation Forum responses--especially the ones from www.thegadgetguru.com It is a JOKE---not touch screen--20th Century technology. Laser Cruise is great----if ya don't have lots of traffic. Sun glare & rain affect operation. I have both on my 06 Limited and I'm sorry I got them. Also, the Remote Start isn't worth the nearly $500. If I had it to do again--I'd get an $800 Garmin GPS, forgo the Laser Cruise and get an after market Remote Start. For what its worth. Depending on where ya live--get as many dealer quotes as possible--I bought 75 miles from where I live. You'll be surprised at the price ranges! Also, when ya check dealer inventory, you'll notice "In Stock" and "Available"---Toyota has a car pool that dealers draw from. Check a couple of dealers in the same area and you'll see the "Available" inventory is the same for both!
Good luck----make sure you KNOW the true cost of the car ya want----including the 3% Holdback the dealer gets on the vehicles MSRP. I bought a 3 month New Car Pricing Program from Consumer Reports for $39. It gives you the chance to also compare vehicles side-by-side and the pricing is up-to-date and accurate! Good luck on your purchase--let us know how it goes!

Very impressed with your analysis.
I have a 2003 avalon xls with that great lcd display. I rented a 2006 xls with NAV and it worked poorly. REnented a 2006 Touring and found poor LCD info, trans apear to hesitate? poorer gas mileage duie to bigger dngine, no oocks on trunck or passenger side. My lease is up and dealer is willing and has a 2007 for a few dollars less than my 2003. Is the 2007 safer than the 2003 - because of the side curtain air bags? Should I buy my 2003 [with 21000mi] for $14000 or go for the 2007 xls?
Help?

BobL: What's Kelley Blue Book (KBB) the "Trade In" value of your 2003 XLS? Also check with your bank--they can provide the info. Car is 4 years old and only 21,000 miles--hardly broken in!! I have an 06 Limited--i get 27+MPG running around the Ozark hills and over 30 MPG highway with air on and doing 75 MPH. Gotta be careful with the Avalon--the 3.5 V6 is a powerhouse and I have to watch myself or I'm back in the hot rod days! Avlon gets great marks from the NHSTA for passenger safety. Do you know it even has front knee air bags? I'd really "dicker" with the dealer---you should be able to get a REAL good price on your 03. Do your homework and know what the Trade in and Retail Price is for the 03---I'd offer say $300-$500 to start over trade in. I'm sure he'd rather sell to you than go through all the make ready to put the car on his lot. Next question--do you want new or used----good luck!

Make sure you look into aftermarket backup camera, I am enjoying the use of mine, especially at night..They are worth it if you have the NAV screen..

I bought a 2007 Avalon Limited for $465 over dealer invoice. The car is excellent. Couldn't have asked for more! Thanks for everyone's input.
