BobL: What's Kelley Blue Book (KBB) the "Trade In" value of your 2003 XLS? Also check with your bank--they can provide the info. Car is 4 years old and only 21,000 miles--hardly broken in!! I have an 06 Limited--i get 27+MPG running around the Ozark hills and over 30 MPG highway with air on and doing 75 MPH. Gotta be careful with the Avalon--the 3.5 V6 is a powerhouse and I have to watch myself or I'm back in the hot rod days! Avlon gets great marks from the NHSTA for passenger safety. Do you know it even has front knee air bags? I'd really "dicker" with the dealer---you should be able to get a REAL good price on your 03. Do your homework and know what the Trade in and Retail Price is for the 03---I'd offer say $300-$500 to start over trade in. I'm sure he'd rather sell to you than go through all the make ready to put the car on his lot. Next question--do you want new or used----good luck!

Make sure you look into aftermarket backup camera, I am enjoying the use of mine, especially at night..They are worth it if you have the NAV screen..

nhk: When you say "fully loaded" do you mean Nav Sys (CRAP)--buy after market), Laser Cruis (great on the interstate--if not too much traffic), Vehicle Stability and Traction Control (great), remote start (buy after market)--start dealing UP from dealer invoice. Remember, the 07 Avalon Ltd's MSRP is $34,065--there's a 3% ($1,022) Hold Back that dealer gets from Toyota. So if ther dealer sells you a 2007 Avy Ltd with nothing on it at his cost, $2,976, he still makes $1,022. Hold back is the dealers "sacred cow"---their FOR SURE profit. Not sure if you're trading a car or not? Do you live in a metro area where you can get multiple dealer quotes? Avalon is agreat car--I have a "loaded" 06 Silver Pine Mica Ltd--27 MPG aropund the Ozark hills and 30+MPG at 75 on the interstate--on 89 octane (10% Ethanol.) I spent $39 and ordered the Consumer Reports New Car Buying Program--lets you compare side-by-side--up-to-date prices--great program. You get 3 months of "unlimited" comparisons--I found it SUPERB!! Good luck and hope you save lots of $$$$!!! Doing your homework will pay-off--know the EXACT cost of the car, shipping and every option!! You should be able to get the car for $400-$700 over invoice--depending on where you are! Another thing to remember, Toyota keeps a "stock pile" of cars available for multiple dealers to draw from---when you see the dealers ad--it will say "in stock" or "available!" ANy dealer in that area can draw that cr and you'll see that many dealers within a certain locality will the same car shown as available!! Good luck!!

the Avalon does have a tranny that wants to hold onto high gears (can you say FE), and also an 'smart' electronic throttle linkage that is 'picky' about how you press it. It bothers some, but not others - but, have they been resolved - not likely since the same types of behavior is now being experienced in the new 5 and 6 speed Camrys. Keep in mind also that there have been no mechanical problems with the Av's transmission, it is simply a function of the way it is designed to work and a driver's ability to adjust to it. Suggest you drive one for something more than a 20 minute test drive - it is a wonderful car!

nhk: What is the make, model, year, options and condition of your trade? Too many variables to make an educated guess. What is the Kelley Blue Book (KBB) "trade in" value of your car? You need to get an idea of what its worth. You said you were in Arizona---I assume you're close to Phoenix/Tucson where you can get offers from several Toyota dealers--you need to make sure you're comparing "apples to apples." You'll get some high offers for your car and some low offers--KNOW THE KBB value of your car and the "true" dealer cost of the car you want to buy. Good luck and let us know your outcome.

after the service depts., the used car depts. make more money for a dealer than anything else. If your residual is only $14k, it appears your car might tickle almost $20k sold privately. The point is, why let the dealer make that money, things like low mileage Avalons should sell very easily. And then you have a few thousand that you can use on buying down the 07 lease, or you simply keep the car - at the rate you drive it it should last 15 more years!
