Hi there,

I also had this issue come up, were you able to fix this Chinese characters issue? I was installing a latest nav DVD and in the override screen I accidentally selected Japanese nav and ended up in this mess. Please if you have sorted this out I would appreciate your response.

#242 of 257 04 Toyota Sienna Nav DVD upgrade mess by malik1970

Hello folks,

I just tried upgrading Navigation DVD in my 04 Toyota Sienna, however in the override screen I accidentally pressed a wrong button which now shows Japanese or Chinese letter and gives me error message. How can I go back to this DVD units original state? I have read about removing the battery from the Nav DVD player's battery etc but does that work? Do anybody know the easiet fix for this? If any body out there can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Should an owner of a 2006 Sienna XLE with just under 55K miles expect the navigation system (not the map DVD) to last more than 4-5 years?

Same happened in my case. Driving home from the dealership after a $300 repair and the whole system crashes - DVD/NAV/Radio/Rear Camera. Found a auto car audio specialist in after market/out of warranty fixes and they analyzed it for $60 and found the Mother Board in the NAV system failed - $700 to fix. I figure it's better than $3000 so I'm giving it a try. I'll comment back after they fix it.

Replaced nav with rebuilt from online source (buyautoparts.com). Cost was about $1300 plus $800 core that get credited-back when you return the original (one year warranty, they pay for shipping). My experience with this vendor was very civilized, other probably are too. You can do the exchange yourself easily in about 15 minutes (pop-out fake wood trim on either side of nav using flat-head screw-driver, 4 Philips-head screws on side of nav to remove black cover thingy, 4x10mm bolts in back to remove unit (I didn't drop any, but imagine this could be problematic if you do) -- lots of connectors in back, but each is different from the next and color-coded to boot. Needs DVD from Toyota (about $200) to boot system, but this worked first time and I haven't encountered any problem. Good luck.

hello all
i would like to buy a 2011 XLE with the navigation package. I live in SF bay Area. Anyone has bought the same car? What would be a good deal? About $3300 below MSRP would be a good deal?

also, does anyone know if the GPS would work in Canada? How do you update this in the future? how much do you have to pay for potential upgrades? Is the nav pack worth the $2000 or so they ask for?

Thanks so much for your help.

I think (but verify this before ordering) that the maps are for all of North America.

Let me know what you find... I'm looking for the same thing also in the bay area - happy to share my experiences. From what I can see $2K off seems a typical deal; $3K off seems a great deal.
