The 0-60 times of a EST 6.5 Sec, I was a little surprised
I thought it would be in the 7.0 Sec range. I just put a deposit on one, but this really sounds like a well balanced car, Luxury, power, and gas mileage.

To be honest, 6.5 actually sounds a bit right or even on the conservative side for the FWD MKZ. Considering the 3.0 liter 221hp Zephyr, Milan, and Fusion did 0-60 in roughly 7 seconds flat, it would be logical to assume that with 263hp now, it should be able to do much better. Even the incredibly heavy Ford Five Hundred and Mercury Montego with only 203hp can hit 60mph in the 7 second range.

Unfortunatly it seems as if the MKZ is taking a similar approach as Toyota and Lexus, they are offering the power for a sporty car, but they are not backing it up with a manual transmission. At least it handles pretty decently though.

Do we even know if this new 6sp automatic transmission in the MKZ has a shift it yourself feature?

"Do we even know if this new 6sp automatic transmission in the MKZ has a shift it yourself feature?"

Yeah, we know. The shifter in this sporty Lincoln has the following gear selections: P R N D L There is no select shift feature.

How's THAT for running thru the gears? Manual tranny? I don't think Lincoln will try that again for another 50 years after their dealers could not (or actually in many cases WOULD NOT sell the LS with a stick shift.)

The first drive of the Z sounded pretty favorable. But with that stoooopid granny shifter, it's a non-starter for me.

That is a bummer. The LS with the 5sp Getrag was very nice too. It is a shame they are so damn rare. The few that bought them are certainly hanging onto them.

Oh well, if I won the lottery tommarow I would probably buy an Acura TL instead. If I can help it, I sure as heck am not buying it unless it has 3 pedals. :p

It is a shame because the MKZ is a great car...they just aren't selling it with a stick! ARGH!

Yep. I've still got my 2001. Still runs like new.

Seriously, the MK Z won't have 3 pedals, I can practically guarantee that. If you want a MK Z with a stick, get a Mazda 6.

Mk Z 3.5: Twin Charge it! by douglasr

...Edmunds Review of the Mark Z is promising news for Lincoln, but sadly happens at the same time the V8 for the Mark S got scrapped by Mr. Fields at Ford Motor. So the 3.5 Engine now has the whole future of Lincoln Motorcars on its shoulders---it had better be good, and able to hit the 300Bhp plus mark pretty darned quick---or Lincoln will go the way of Packard. The 24V V6 plus 3 litre engine is long overdue at Ford Motor. But host a pint for the team that built it...and got it past the beancounters, at least it is a start!! Mr. Leet can't object to its performance as it stands.

Lincoln sales are up---50,251 for the year largely due to Mark Z(ephyr), and lets hope they pack the Mark Z and S with a lot of equipment on either side of the motor. Twin Charging a 3.5 V6 might also make a really hot Lincoln too...pushing the new engine well past 300Bhp. Without the horses, Mark Z might end up standing for 'Zorro', and become a laughingstock going against Bimmers, and Benzes. With Wixom closing all the chips are on the table for Lincoln and this motor has to pull its punches.

But, DR, the Z isn't supposed to go up against Bimmers and MBs is it? If it is, it's sadly outclassed. I think it competes against Buick and Chrysler maybe? And no one has said (yet) anything about a twin turbo in the Z. I doubt they'll do that. In fact, the TT itself is not yet announced, it's a rumor at this point. They've only committed to using the 3.5 in the S and the Z (and the X I think). Besides, Lincoln is not a twin turbo type of car company is it? Can u see the dealers trying to sell the blue hairs on a twin turbo? HAHAHAHA. I see dead people - with blue hair on their head, an airbag in their chest and a twin turbo under their foot. Those same dealers wouldn't even *order* an LS with a 5 speed.

I think all this TT talk is just to ease the pain of killing the V8. Soon, they'll kill the TT too or just let the rumor die and announce maybe VVT on the 3.5 in the S making maybe 300HP. By 08 if gas prices don't come down, V8s will start becoming rare as hen's teeth anyway.

BTW, one thing I read today that they are going to pack into the 2007 MK Z is up to a $2000 or so price increase.

I think Lincoln is trying to reverse that image somewhat. Before the LS, I wouldn't expect Lincoln to be able to sell anyone a car that was below 65 years old.

Lincoln somewhat reversed their image with the LS for a little while, but they spoiled it by not following up soon with something else that was sporty.

Believe it or not, with this new MKZ and hopefully with the MKS, it could be enough to reverse their image and start selling to younger people.

Not too long ago people had the same idea about Cadillac.

As for no V8 on the MKS, I was expecting that. They did a survey for the options and engines people would prefer and offered was a 3.5V6 (probably in the 275-300hp range), the same 4.4 V8 that is in the XC90, and the 3.5 Twin Turbo (they estimated 325hp and 350lbft of torque, but you know Ford and their insane low balling of early power estimates. That engine was designed from the ground up for heavy forced induction and direct injection, I would say closer to 350hp to 375hp is a safe bet.).

Also, they would run into the same problem as the Lexus GS if they offered the V8. In the Lexus they couldn't offer their 3.5V6, they had to offer the 3.0 because the 3.5 made almost as much power as their 4.3 V8!

20 gallon tank/ great review by rolo77

Can anyone confirm the MKZ 07 has a 20.00 gallon
tank, hey I know Edmunds is as good a gold, but
would like a conformation, great article put
my deposit 7895.00 today on a fully loaded FWD
MKZ for 32,895.00 with 3954.35 off MSRP thru
military sales. There is no turning back so
I have been sweating the load for the first review

thanks Edmunds always 1st and fair

Also hoping for a 6.9 0-60 and 1/4 around 94-95
so it looks like it should hit the mark. The
second thing I was hoping for was to keep the same
gas mileage or better with a 20 gallon tank, now if
we can keep ford in healthy I am set.

Not sure about Edmunds being good as gold - these are the same folks who told me changing the stroke wouldn't change the engine displacement - but that is what the Lincoln specs say as well so I think it's a safe bet that it will have a 20 gal. gas tank.
