I can't wait to get one of these. I do worry about what type of trade-in I will get for my 06 Zephyr. I am trying to decide which color to go for. I guess it will just have to strike me when I see it on the lot. I may wait until I see in person the MKx also. I have 10k miles on the Zephyr and I have been nothing but happy with it. I saw a custom Ford Fusion yesterday with extra chrome, custom paint job and big wheels with rims and it really caught some attention. I also hope Ford does well however there were some announcements on CNN this morning about more cuts. I guess eventually GM and Ford will figure out that the day of the large SUV's are over unless they can get the hybrids out there. Interesting that I have really been looking to spot hybrids and about the only one I ever see is the Prius. I went to purchase the Mercury SUV hybrid and spotted the Zephyr and picked that up instead for 2.5k cheaper than the Hybrid. I was impressed with the Mercury SUV it was smooth but with no kids anymore I just did not need the SUV.

That engine really gives me hope for Ford. Given it is starting at 263 hp on unleaded, there is a lot of room to add more power in future models. It's reported smoothness is a big plus.

I will be favorably surprised by the MKZ having a 20 gal. tank, that would make it larger than what is in the outgoing LS, larger than the one in the Town Car and the Grand Marquis. I believe the listing in the specs. to be a typo and intended for the MKX. The underpinnings of the Fusion/Milan/MKZ are basically the same (excluding the 3.5L) and that would make the 17.5 gas tank an off the shelf item for all three models which are made in the same production facility.

As far as the Edmund's review 8/17/06 which leads off by telling you that the MKZ should be referred to as the Mark Z, this after FOMOCO told us in July that would not be accurate.

It could be a typo, but remember the MKZ actually shares its drivetrain with the Edge/MKX (FWD/AWD, 3.5L V6, Ford/GM Jointly developed 6 speed automatic tranny) not the Fusion/Milan.

If anything, adding a driveshaft and rear differential to the Zephyr body would result in a smaller tank, certainly not a larger one.

Also, let's not forget one thing - a 20 gallon tank would actually put them even with or ahead of the target competition (Lexus-18.5, Infiniti-20). Ask yourself, when was the last time Ford did something that was ahead of the competition? Ford is much more comfortable being one step behind rather than one step ahead. Expect the tank to remain at 17.5. A 20 gallon tank would be too outrageous!!

But for the AWD models the fuel mileage will be reduced which would require the larger tank to make up for the loss in range. Not saying it's true, but it sure does make sense.

It is something that is distressing to admit and your point is not wasted as it relates to your "Ask yourself, when was the last time ---". You would hope Ford would be listening to the voices that would have them on the forward half of the circle and not the rear end..

About the interior by samnoe

I seat last week in a new MKZ. There are a few things I don't like, but I am picky. Too many look-alike buttons surround the DVD navigation/audio system, which forces you to take away your attention from the road at times. The section above the radio player feels flimsy.

I also hate the automatic temperature design in all recent Fords/Lincoln. Too complicated to use. Here I would suggest to copy the new Camry, it's intuitive and simple to use. I love simplicity, but combined with style.

Also, I pushed the (powered) seat up all the way, until my head knocked into the roof. Is that called limited head room? or should I lower the seat? I felt like I love the high position ("commanding view")... How about you, guys?

Otherwise, it looks stunning and beautiful.

Yes, also a word about the steering wheel. I think it's too large - oversized! And the controls on the steering wheel is also quite confusing, and should be organized better.

And I would like to see optitron gauges. Come on, most Toyota and Honda models offer'em, and Lincoln itself offered it on the (old) Navigator/Avaitor... Why step back?
