Just had my transmission worked on after having the symptoms like your car. I have a 2008 Chevy Impala LTZ and they replaced the pressure control valve and the valve body and that seems to have done the trick. It was under warranty.

How is your car running now? Did replacing the pressure control valve and the valve body resolve it? I have a 2007 Chevy impala and it has random issue where it hesitates and then jerks forward from a stop and then again around 40 MPH. I took it to my mechanic and also transmission specialist. The first place took for a drive and encountered the problem, but it didn't send any codes to their computer. They said until it sends a code they would just be ripping things out trying to guess at the problem. The transmission place took it for a drive and didn't experience any symptoms and No error codes either. Argh this is so frustrating..don't know what to do. Curious to know if that repair resolved it.

Same as thousands of others. However...from reading around...and speaking to my guy, who has several contracts with city employee cars (Impalas), in cluding police dept....I now know why cities shifted from Impalas to the Dodge chargers. Replacing that valve is only a temporary fix. The computer is also reading "wear" in the transmission. Much like me who is almost 50....I could still play softball like I did in my 20's but my body would object and constantly give me signals not to. That's how it was explained to me in layman's terms. I am currently having my tranny rebuilt...will eat the cost...sell it at book value...and get away from American cars period.
My husband and I just got burned by a Saturn ion last year...the dealership replaced the motor and security system...but the motor lost 2.5 qts of oil in 16 miles the first day home....and lost a qtr after that fix....my faith in American cars is toast.
We have a 1988 toyota camry that cranks,rolls, with over 250,000 miles on it....and never had any major issue. I may be a dreamer...but to me...I've got my moneys worth from that car...which is how it should be. Good luck!

Same thing happened to me - It turns out it is a combination of two things: one - the second gear clutch assembly is mildly exposed to weather - thus becoming less lubricated and 'sticky' if you will. If you are still in warranty it will be covered with your dealership - there is a service bulletin for this problem as well. Secondly, GM uses a 'learning' transmission - so, as this condition worsens, the ECM thinks this is how you wish to drive. So the problem will continue to worsen. Once you replace the second gear clutch assembly, make sure to reset your ECM, and your transmission will work fine!

I too am done with (not american cars as no car is really american only), the big three; GM, Ford and Chrysler. I do not know what they are thinking! step up to the plate and admit when a problem is present and fix it!
I can proudly or even sadly say that no less than 10 car buyers have now purchased other brands after hearing my issues and having sent them to the numerous chat (bitch) groups related to the big three. I will keep preaching this as long as I live!

I've recently purchased a 2003 Impala. I've read several complaints about this model car. According to the owner's manual, certain cylinders will shut down to prevent damage to the motor. In this case, the car would feel as though the transmission is slipping. At best, the thermostat may be a cause for the cylinders to shut down. But, according to the check engine codes, it had something to do with tempature gage. I replaced it, but the check engine light is still on. I have to wait until the next diagnosis. Then better I could report. I am also very upset to learn all the confusion caused by this car. Is this car worth the problems? Comments such as "you bought a lemon", and, "this car is a piece of junk", are not the comments I'd rather hear with so much money invested in it. Chevy check your status.

my 02 impala runs fine, but will shift rapidly back and forth between 3rd and 4th gear at middle speeds, especially while on a slight incline. once it gets through this range, it will level out nicely over 60 mph. does anyone have some incites on this problem?

Have you tried replacing the transmission fluid and cleaning the magnet/pan?
This often works wonders on GM transmissions. GM lies about the fluid change interval. Don't let it go for more than 50000 miles. Those sticking components get smooth again when fresh fluid cleans the varnish off.

I own a 2008 Impala that I have had concerns about the transmission and clutch since I bought it. I have not had a clean transmission that includes the button on the gear shift not fully coming out in any gear and being able to switch gear without needed to push the button in.
Recently, I cannot remove the key from the ignition after shutting down while having the car in park. I can leave the key in the ignition and remove everything else from the key and lock the car using the remote, but the key remains in the ignition.
What can I do to remove the key? Also is this covered under warranty since the car has about 85,000 miles? Is GM willing to remain on future car purchase lists for my consideration?
