I didn't get a chance to look but isn't the original gas cap connected to the car via a tether/harness? How would you properly remove that? I'm replacing it with the locking gas cap once I get my Fit. Thanks.

I was thinking the same thing. Have you solved this problem? Can you tell me how to do it without cutting it off? I would like to reattach the harness to the new locking cap...Thanks

I replaced mine today. Take a small punch/poker and push the center of the pin on the gas cap door up from the bottom. The pin will push out and the outer part of the pin will be removable and the tether will remove. The replacement locking cap does not have a tether and is of different diameter than original, so you will no longer have tether.

Thanks! I'll try that. I'm still waiting for my accessories. I ordered it last week and they are just delivering today.

Thank you! So no tether? Kinda sucks that the Fit doesn't have the pocket to rest the gas cap like normal cars...Oh well.
Out of curiosity, how come it has a different diameter? If it is too small, won't the check engine light turn on?

The outer portion of the locking gas cap is larger than the one that comes with the car, but the threads and sealing edge are the same, so there's no risk of flagging the check engine light.

In Canada get your locking gas cap at Canadian Tire and get the Motorad 23-0515-2 MGC-900 this fits the Fit as it is for the Element. No gas cap light I paid $22.99 + taxes as for the tether just push the pin up and out
