For whatever is worth, let me say that I just bought a Fit 08 and expirienced the saame thing, but I must add that this "vacuum effect" was also present in my old 90 Toyota Corolla that I owned for 18 years. I don't believe it should a great concern since it is a vacuum created by not having the 4 windows open...incidentally I also own an 08 Toyota Sienna Limited and when I have tried to open the rear sliding door window..guess hwat? I get the same....like the old joke said.."if it hursts when you do that..don't do it"

Regarding your fuel economy of 20 mpg, it's highly unlikely (but not impossible) that there is a mechanical defect with your particular car. Consider some of these other possibilities: tire pressure too low, poor quality fuel, using non-stock size tires and wheels, using winter tires (which have real sticky rubber and get less MPG) in warm weather, aggressive driving (leadfoot starts, scream up to stops signs and brake hard), prolonged driving at high speed/high engine RPM (such as > 65-70 mpg or > 3,000 rpm), driving in areas with high winds or constant head or side winds, driving in hilly or mountainous terrain, driving at high altitude, driving on roads with a lot snow or heavy rain on them (increased rolling resistance). There are probably a few more variables I didn't think of here. I have 2 08 Honda Fit Sports with auto trans. My 20 yr old son drives his with a leadfoot/aggressive driving style and is averaging 28-29 MPG. I'm in my 50s and driver very conservatively and am averaging 30-32 mpg.

You just explained why sildra9on should take his/her vehicle to the dealer and have it checked. With poor driving, the Fit should get 25-29 mpg, with good driving it should get 30-38mpg. If you're consistently getting 20 mpg on a stock Fit - something is mechanically or electrically wrong with the vehicle. The first owner check is tire pressure, then air filter, parking brake, fluids. If there isn't anything obvious wrong with these, take it to the dealer. Unfortunately, most posters with this problem haven't gotten satisfaction from the dealers. Many owners report mileage on these vehicles continues to improve through 6K-8K miles. I got 32 mpg out-of-the-box on my AT base until I put the 15" OEM tires on it. My last tank was bit low but no where near 20mpg.

07 Hodan Fit Sport Dashboard Rattles by dranchek

The dash in my '07 Fit Sport with 16,700 miles has rattled since 1500 miles. It started behind the center blower vents and shortly covered the entire dash, the glove box cover and something in the front passenger door. I took it to the dealer, Jones Honda in Lancaster, Pa. about 1 month ago. They fixed the glove box cover and the passenger door rattle, but none of the dashboard rattles. The Service Rep, Adam, told me "The cars are inexpensive and they rattle, it's just the nature of the beast". Adam went on to say, "You can bring it back, we'll look at it again but we'll never get the rattles fixed. If this wasn't under warranty and you (meaning me -the customer) had to pay for this repair, you'd just live with it". I wonder what Honda of America would say about that? I strongly feel the rattles are caused mainly by the harsh suspension. There is no absorption of expansion strips or sharp road irregularities. The low profile tires don't help, either. The other fit drivers I talk with have the same rattling problems. Some don't mind the noise, others don't seem to care. I'm considering pursuing this for the required 5 visits then hiring an attorney and envoking the lemon law. I'd love to see the look on the Honda reps. face when my attorney reads the statements made by Adam of Jones Honda in Lancaster, Pa.

Hey gonewtoncards, I still haven't taken my car back to the dealer to get the vibrating gear shift checked out. I can't go during the week so I'd have to use a Saturday to sit at the dealer while they check it out, and after the last experience where I wasted two hours and they balanced the tires instead, saying that was the problem (which it clearly was not), I hesitate to deal with that dealership ever again.

Since I figure it's not a threat to the car itself, nor to me, I'm waiting 'til I go in for my next oil change, which is coming up soon. I'll certainly post the results of my visit (I will be trying a different dealer, that's for sure).

Honda Fit general noise by cactustex

Maybe it's me but.......I have been researching the Fit and went for a test drive today. I can't remember the last time that I've been in a car that was so noisey---maybe my Volkswagen Beetle in high school. On the highway you could hear and almost feel every expansion crack, hear the difference in every road surface texture as it changed, etc. Not even my (small) Porsche 911 was so conspicuously annoying in this regard. Was it just me? Anyone have experience with "insulation" applied to the bottom? Comments? Thanks.

Hi anahita61 I'm new on here. First of all I'm from London England and I just had my Honda Jazz (2003) serviced today and they spent 9 hrs still cannot fix the problem which exactly same as yours. All the gears working fine except 5th!!! Everytime I go down the motorway, once in 5th gear and speed reaching 60mph - 1) the buzzing noise comes on and I put my hand slightly and gently push the gear stick towards top right it stops! 2) it vibrates as well now spreaded to 2nd gear...its like a virus BUT hand off, noise comes back! Very annoying indeed and have to put music on loudly plus my terrble screaming style singing to cover the noise . Anyhow, the technician serviced my car tried 3 time still not helping, he finally slapped on some white gluish-like lubricant into the gear (the gear linkage I believe) as i took the plastic cover off when i get home and i saw the grease!!!

I drove it for an hour on highways AND in town, try to run it the gear hopefully the grease will gradually melts into the stiff part (as far as I concern there aint much ppl have the spot on solution yet) but using the grease its used by alot of ppl out there to stop this problem only 50-60% cases successful!

I will keep it running around in next couple of days to see whats happening, cuz the noises seem lowered at some point but louder again. So i cant tell u whats next until then. Let me know if u have ur fixed.

Good luck!

Hi dark_angel, I'm really late seeing your comment, but I'm headed to Honda tomorrow, to a different dealer to get it looked it. I'm going in for an oil change, but while it's still under warranty I thought I'd get them to see if they can fix it. It's really annoying, but hopefully it's not damaging. I, too, have to play music loud to mask the sound of it. It's only when I'm accelerating in 5th gear after a bit of travel at highway speeds. The grease doesn't sound good, so I hope they don't try that with mine. Thanks for your comment.

Yo buddy! Its ok, i got crashed into another day in the roundabout by a truck so the car is in the honda dealership for repairs at the moment. Spke to the mechanics and he said looks like the bearing is on the way out and its gonna cost me around £450 to change them (ouch!) but at least i got the repairs done for free as the other side is liabled to pay for it!

They gave me this brand new Jazz but i still prefer mine for some reasons. Anyhow i'll keep it til next year from now. They've also tried them grease method, it didnt work on mine. Dont worry they use these industrial grease which wont damage your car but it stinks and digusting, looks like someone's sick. Its a mystery still but hope they will have a good look at my car and find out whats wrong with it. Thanks for replying and good luck buddy! Have a nice summer btw ciao~
