#2445 of 2608 1999 Ford Windstar LX-- Diagnostician Transmission leakage?

While on our way home yesterday, as the car started to accel it started missing like it was losing fluid. As we turned the corner towards home we were unaware that there was a trail of fluid pouring from under the car. We added more tranny fluid only to find it going directly on the ground. We think it could be the seal to the tranny. Can anyone give us a clue to find out if we need to have a mechanic look at it? Or is there a Mechanic in the house?

It's good to know that the mechanic wasn't just brushing me off with a phony line. It turned out that the alternator he put on was spiking in voltage and I had to get a second new alternator. Just my luck...
Thanks for the input.
#2448 of 2608 99 Ford Windstar ( Mounting Hitch ) Need help
by redbarons

I have a 99 W.S. & was going to mount a heavy duty 2 in. receiver hitch. under the rear frame , the hitch has three bolt holes on each side for mounting . My frame only has two holes for mounting . I need the three holes in the frame to match up with the hitch and I also need some slots in the side of the frame in order to put the mounting bolts through & into the holes .
Has anyone mounted a heavy duty hitch on their own & did you have two or three bolt holes on each side of the rear frame ?
Did you have any slots on the frame to put the boles through ???
If I need to drill & cut a few slots , will it cause a proble with the frame ??
I was wondering if the Winstar came with all the holes and slots from the factory ?
We have the big six engine A/T with O/D
Any help or pictures of your rear frame & hitch installation would be greatly appreciated .
THANK YOU

I have a 2001 Ford Windstar. I checked the owner's manual and the warning light you described means to check your fuel cap. The manual states that if this light stays on (problem not corrected) it may cause your Engine light to come on. Also, you can obtain an owner's manual from Helms Inc 1-800-782-4356. Good Luck!
#2450 of 2608 FLASHING INTERIOR LIGHTS

I have a 2001 Ford Windstar. Recently I have had problems with my interior lights flashing periodically while riding at night. This does not affect my exterior lights. Any suggestions as to what could be causing this?

When you push the tire reset button, hold it in for about 10 seconds and see if that resets the light. You can obtain an owner's manual from Helms Inc 1-800-782-4356. Hope this helps.
#2452 of 2608 2001 Windstar strange brake noises

Trying to diagnose a strange problem with the brakes on my 2001 Windstar. When the pedal is depressed, we hear a sound from under the dash board that kind of sounds like something rubber being twisted or compressed, sqeaking. This isn't the pads or shoes. Definitely inside the car. I have the Ford Extended warranty and the deal replaced the brake booster last week. However, that didnt' make any difference at all. They tried to tell me that it's normal but it didn't do it when we bought the car and only started in the last 18 months or so.
It's worse when the weather is warm and when it gets bad, the brake pedal gets hard to press.
Could this be the master cylinder?

Still no answer for the problem, have not driven it on any long journeys since, around town there is no problem, but I am hesitant to take anywhere far. Have you had any luck??? Or anyone else have any ideas???

Hi, just found this site and was surprized to see that you are having a similar problem. My van will start, but has the same electrical problems as you do I have swapped out the ignition switch, swapped all the relays, and replaced the front end electronic control module, but still have the same problem. Have you solved yours yet?
