What is this discussion about? Ford Expedition, SUV

Article comments for First Drive: 2007 Ford Expedition - Skyrocketing fuel costs have reduced the large SUV market from 1 million units in 2004 to an estimated 650,000 this year. Retaining market share in this climate means offering more and selling it for less. Ford, apparently, has figured this out. (more)

"Ford and GM, the stalwarts of the full-size SUV segment, have just redesigned their bread-and-butter vehicles. So which one is top dog now? We compare the 2007 Ford Expedition to the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe."

That was a nice article. Would have loved to see that as Suburban vs. EL though. Perhaps then the non-flat-folding GM third row wouldn't have mattered so much, since there's a ton of room even with seats up.

Also, the complaints about the Chevy's small wheels and squishy tires were unfounded, as 20"s are available on the GMs as well as the Ford. And of course the autoride suspension on the Chevy would have, um, levelled the field.. Granted, those would have made the price difference even wider, another $3,000 in the Ford's favor. Just saying, it wasn't quite apples to apples.

Overall, I agree with the conclusion. I currently have a GMC, but I'll bet my next vehicle is an Expy EL because of the 6-speed, IRS, flat folding third row, and better value for the money. Also just prefer the Ford styling, inside and out. Unless the ginormous rebates come back and I get some GM loyalty deal, I'd take either one, it'll come down to price. I think they're both nice, but I lean towards the Ford at this point.

Steve_,
Suggest you post that link in the Tahoe forum as well to get some more discussion going.

or just open?

I'm almost positive that it opens and closes it. My uncle just bought one, when I get a chance I'll ask him.

My 07' Expy EL does both, not only from the dash button, but also from the key fob. One has to press the lift gate button twice to open, once to close.......Hope that helps...
