Initial reviews for the Expo look good. I'm wondering why the new Navigator is getting such poor reviews? Same car, more gadgets, different (and perhaps more offensive) sheet metal. Perhaps it's the competition? I'm looking for a large SUV, with all the gadgets, that can tow greater than 6000 lbs. Lack of fold flat seats is almost a deal breaker. That leaves the Durango/Aspen, Armada/QX56, Expedition/Navigator.

One thing that I've noticed on every article I've read on actual mileage experienced when testing Ford trucks and GM trucks: GM's mileage is always either on the city end of the estimate or lower in mixed driving and Ford's is usually in the middle or near the highway end in mixed driving. I owned a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer and a 2004 Chevy Tahoe. Unless I drove like my grandmother in a heavy fog during a monsoon (not exaggerating), I never got EPA Both vehicles got 14 mpg in mixed driving, and 55% of my driving was highway. I borrowed my friends 2006 F150 while he learned to drive a stick in my 2003 Saturn Vue. I got 18 in mixed driving. But then again, I get 25 to 26 in mixed drivig in my Vue and he only got 22. He also agreed to replace my clutch. Something about revving the engine and riding the clutch, but I digress. If you are purchasing or thinking about purchasing one of these vehicles, and doing so for the right reasons, MPG should be the least of your worries. Horsepower should be a concern either. Now torque...I agree that that should be the main concern for anyone considering either the Expy or the GM Tahoe clones. Pulling that camper or boat and not needing a tow truck on the other hand should be at the top of your list. If you aren't buying for the 'right' reasons (read as vanity or show), both companies sell really nice minivans that get excellent gas mileage for the same people hauling capacities. But don't take my word for that, check out the recent magazines and web comparisons and do the research yourself.

at a new expedition 'el' at the dealer today before going to my car after service. it looks a lot better in real life than pictures. it was a limited model.

Perhaps then the non-flat-folding GM third row wouldn't have mattered so much, since there's a ton of room even with seats up. Also, the complaints about the Chevy's small wheels and squishy tires were unfounded, as 20"s are available on the GMs as well as the Ford. And of course the autoride suspension on the Chevy would have, um, levelled the field.. Granted, those would have made the price difference even wider, another $3,000 in the Ford's favor. Just saying, it wasn't quite apples to apples. Overall, I agree with the conclusion. I currently have a GMC, but I'll bet my next vehicle is an Expy EL because of the 6-speed, IRS, flat folding third row, and better value for the money. Also just prefer the Ford styling, inside and out. Unless the ginormous rebates come back and I get some GM loyalty deal, I'd take either one, it'll come down to price. I think they're both nice, but I lean towards the Ford at this point.
